Best way to book a safari

As I mentioned in another post my wife and I will be in Malindi for 2 weeks in July. We are interested in adding a third week and going on safari. Should we book before getting to Malindi through a company like tokenya, go2africa or abercrombe & kent? Or would we better off to wait an see what is available locally once we get to Malindi? If we should book in advance do you recommend a particular company? We want a small group or private experience.

Thanks.

I prefer to do my homework from the comfort of my armchair rather than waste valuable holiday time walking around the shops and offices. I would contact a handful of companies now for quotations and compare what's on offer. Lots recommended on here. I would also pay the supplement for a private safari.

Not familiar with ToKenya and of the others, go2Africa is South African based, while A&K is simply too expensive. There are plenty East African specialist safari planners in the States, or you can select an 'in-country' outfitter (see the KATO site) for reputable names, of comments here on TA of oft-used outfitters... and work with these.

Do your homework now and book beforehand as July is the peak season and many places are already booked up. I Wouldn't wait till in-country and then find 'there's no room at the inn' or at least not places you'd prefer at your particular budget.

July-August is peak season and you might find it difficult to arrange any safari at the last minute. You will be surprised by not getting some particular properties as early as now especially in the Maasai mara. The wildebeest migration will have started by then prompting the rush. You are better of sorting that bit of your holiday asap.

I Would recommend Plan Safari Ltd on a personal level.

As you work for a safari company, do you think its professional to post client (or tourists as you call them) email addresses on here?
