Fukuoka layover - what to see do, eat, how to get around?

My wife and I will have an 8 hour layover in Fukuoka. Would we be able to leave the airport and explore the city? Is walking from the airport international terminal to the subway station easy? Does the Fukuoka subway have day passes and do machines accept major credit cards?

What are some good places to go sightseeing besides Ohori Park and the Tenjin area?

Any suggestions for good restaurants for sushi and ramen near the subway stations?

Any place in the airport that is able to hold luggage while we explore the city? Do many restaurants or stores accept JCB or Visa credit cards?

>> Is walking from the airport international terminal to the subway station easy?

No. You have to take the shuttle bus to the domestic terminal where the subway station is located.

Cash only, and day pass isn't required since it costs only 100 yen per ride on buses in the downtown area but it's your choice.

The subway station is under the domestic terminal (take the free bus from international terminal). There is an all day pass and it is 500 yen during the weekend and 600 yen during the week. You can buy from the machines or ask the attendant. Tenjin is diffinitely worth checking out, great food and shopping.Tochoji temple may be worth checking out and its close to Gion subway station.

Ohori Park is definitely worth your time, too. Don't forget to visit a small but nice Japanese garden there:
