G Hyatt is definitely more convenient for sure, but it's still a bit of walk from JR Hakata and Gion subway stations, though. I can highly recommend the Hotel Nikko which is a 2 minute walk from JR Hakata Station. There are tons of restaurants and shopping within the station complex:

Ty,

Shibuyakko, thinking of mall attached to the Hyatt for the convenience

Have not visited Japan in decades..don't mind the walk tho

Just thinking of a more romantic side for the 50 percent discounted room suite at the Hilton, SeaHawk

Since my other half never been to Japan as of yet...and he would like the liquor served during cocktail hours, lol

Yet....the yatai stalls would be nice at noc to wander about the Canal, yes??

It is a dilemma left to Muah! Ha

Much oblidged for your expertise,

Cheers,

Yes, the Hyatt is at the Canal City so it's convenient for shopping and dinning. If you don't mind walking, it'll be OK.

Is the Hilton offering 50%off for the club level room (with club lounge privilege?) If that's the case, I can certainly understand the temptation :)

The yatai is overrated, IMO. They are usually really smoky and kind of unsanitary since they don't have running water. There is nothing special about the foods they offer and the majority of them don't have English menus. If you don't speak Japanese, ordering foods will be challenging. It's OK to check it out but I much prefer one of many great izakayas in town.

Yap,

50 percent off the executive, King Suite no le$$, club level with club access which includes swimming pool or gym, I think! ( just concern regarding smokey room, lol) otherwise, revamp executive high floor,...

Tempting!! Yerrr correct!

Loungie....ha!

Izakayas? Is this like satai style?

Also, he would like some sashimi fugu...any thoughts?

Ty in advance,=}'

I always go for the best located hotels, but if the Hilton is offering such a good deal, I might go for it myself. Taxis are not that expensive in Hakata (compare to Tokyo.)

Izakaya:

Hakata has soooo many good fish restaurants but my absolute favorite is Yachiyomaru. Fugu might not be available everyday, though. All their fish are still in the fish tank swimming when you place your order. The absolute must have in Hakata is the squid:

If you really want fugu, try this one:

Omg,

English plz? Pic looks delish , fugu that is,lol

Is Japanese fugu better than Korean fugu...Busan Fugu???

Or, same in taste??

Yeah, fast food..I looked it up

Hotel wise, I think I'll stay at the GH since Hilton cannot cancel and most likely wants upfront $$,lol

Been thinking about hotels since April of "last year" to include Nikko

Was no room Waay too early perhaps, now..fully booked, again, lol

Then..,,comes the Hilton, whoaaa

Shibuyakko, "Much Oblidged!!!"

G Hyatt is a very nice hotel. It's considered to be the best in Hakata by many. I think you'll be happy with your choice. Canal City is a lot of fun, too.

When I'm in Hakata, I take lots of day trips so staying near Hakata Station is important to me. 3 weeks ago I stayed in a junior suite in the Royal Park Hakata and that room was just amazing! I've stayed in many luxury hotels in the past but this room ranks among the top 5. Sure beats the old and tired superior room in the Ritz Osaka.

I far as I know, Gurunavi is the only English restaurant guide site that includes Fukuoka:

http://rds.gnavi.co.jp/lang/en/?pref=PREF40

GH has great concierge, so I'm sure they can find you a few good fugu restaurants. One thing to remember is that not many places in Hakata offer english menus, so be sure to ask about it.

One more thing, if you're going for the fugu course meal, beware that shirako is often included. It's considered to be a delicacy but know what it is before you eat (or not.)

Hilton Sea Hawk is very far away from the Subway Station. In terms of location, I do NOT recommend it at all.
