Fukuoka to Other Cities - eg, Miyazaki

Hi, it's my first time going to Miyazaki and I'm travelling with my family.

I have been reading the forums, but I still quite unclear as to how to travel around Fukuoka, other than the City itself.

I'll be in Fukuoka for 6 days (end nov). And I would like to fully utilise the 6 days and travel to any other cities if possible.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to where to go? and also, will we have to spend the night there, because we have already booked our hotel at Fukuoka. Thanks.

How about a JR Kyushu rail pass. You can buy a northern pass for 7000Y and visit say, Nagasaki, Kumoto and Beppu or Yufuin and have them all as day trips from Fukuoka (Hakata Station). Or you can buy the pass for 5 days for all of Kyushu. You can just buy the passes in Japan, assuming you meet the rules.

I'm a little confused because you say you are going to Miyazaki, yet you mention staying in Fukuoka for 6 days. Are you staying in both cities (since it is a fairly long train trip between them)
