Oil spill and black sands?

Hi heard from someone that there was a recent oil spill near Mui Ne Beach and that the sands were black as result? I have tried to find more information online but can't? I was sent this weblink but in Vietnamese - which I can read. Can anyone verify if this is true? We are planning to go to Mui Ne in early June.

Kowah,

It is true. It has happened nearly 2 weeks in Ham Tien Beach, having most resorts in Vietnam and runs till Thuan Quy, Ke Ga. If you walk on the black sand or small rocks, you have a hard to to clean.

I am in Muine right now. What a mistake to be here. The water is so polluted. I've been emailing to my canadien friends blaming them for recommending this place, so out of the way, 4hr drive from nhatrang or saigon. This month is a wrong month to be here, so hot and humid. My canadien friends were here during Jan, totally different story.

I was in Hoian 2 days ago and wish I could stay there for weeks. The weather was so nice and the river is so beautiful.

Unfortunately I had paid for my room in advance and could not get refund. Been staying in my room the whole day until dinner time.

Have seen many better beaches than this overrated place. Talked to some beach lovers here, who have never been to Maui and the caribbean, no wonder they like Muine. For me, I am kicking myself for listening to my friends' recommendations. I've learned a big lesson in life. Got to run back to my room, mosquitos beating me now.

Book28,

I'm sorry for your experience with Mui Ne. Being familiar with weather in Thailand, Mui Ne is quite ok for me. I joined a big Vietnamese group to Mui Ne a few years ago. They had the Victory Day Apr 30 and International Labor Day off, so they asked me to go. We had a great time. Hot, yes, I couldn't sleep in the cottage house. Had to climb to front house to sleep. But golden sandy hills and a small spring are so beautiful which can compensate. We had a BBQ at 7pm, tasty. Next time if I stay in an air con room, I'll be fine.

Thanks Book28 for that update...we were meant to be staying there 6/6 but have just cancelled due to oil spill story. I was in two minds but now that I have read your post so glad we did. Off to Nha Trang instead, staying @ Vin Pearl with the kids for a bit of luxury R&R !

Cheers
