NYE - Mui Ne v. somewhere else in Phan Thiet

Hi everyone,

My itinerary is gradually coming together for my trip in Dec/Jan.

It looks like Phan Thiet will work well for me to spend a few days in over New Year's Eve. I was hoping for some recommendations on where best to be based? I'd like somewhere with bars and a bit of a lively atmosphere but not worried about clubbing. I'll almost definitely look to be in a hostel so will probably rely on that to meet a few people to have a beer with.

From what I've read it looks as though there's a few areas in Phan Thiet - which do you think would be best at this time for me please?

Thank you!

If you want to stay in a hostel, I suggest either Mui Ne Hills in Ham Tien, or, if you prefer one on the beach, I suggest Nam Chau Boutique Resort -Mui Ne Passion in Mui Ne. Longson would also be a good choice, but it is a bit isolated, so you would have to take a taxi to outside restaurants or bars.

Here's some information I wrote for CityPass website on both of the two resorts I recommend:

Although the eclectic group of buildings that make up Mui Ne Hills resort are not on the beach, they are located in the very centre of Ham Tien’s tourist strip and within walking distance of many of the best restaurants. As the name implies, the resort is on a small hill, so guests enjoy stunning views of the entire Mui Ne Bay from both the public areas and some of the guest rooms.

Mui Ne Hills is actually a collection of four different hotels and hostels, which cater to both budget travellers and to those who enjoy a little more luxury. Each of the hotels has its own private swimming pool, creating a vibrant atmosphere for guests to socialise.

The Nam Chau Boutique Resort - Mui Ne Passion is an older resort with beautifully landscaped grounds. It provides a large area for activities in the gardens, on the beach and in the ocean. Daytime activities at the resort include kitesurfing, windsurfing, SUP (Stand-Up Paddle) boarding, jetskiing, dune buggy riding, beach volleyball, slip sliding and beach football. On Saturday evenings, the resort runs beach and/or pool disco parties.

The rustic accommodations with thatched roofs and bamboo furniture include private rooms and bungalows starting at around US$25.00 per night with breakfast and cottages with shared accommodations for around US$12.00 to US$15.00 per bed with breakfast.

Prices will be a bit higher at all the resorts if you stay over New Years which is peak tourist season. I think the shared accommodations with breakfast at Nam Chau will be closer to USD $25 over those dates and the shared accommodations at Mui Ne Hills without breakfast will be around USD $15, but you should check with the two resorts for pricing then.

Thanks Steve - that's all really helpful. Mui Ne Hills has a 5 night minimum stay over new year unfortunately.

I'll have a bit more of a read up on the Ham Tien area and see if that seems like a good fit for me over NYE.

Thank you!

Is there a chance to reduce your time in Mui Ne or do it after NYE? I am just asking as I thought that NYE in HCMC is just amazing. I was there 2014 / 2015 and it was one of the best NYE I ever had. I started in D1 in one of the Bia Hoi places, then headed with some locals to the watch the firework, got covered in some white cream the locals spray everywhere, and then continue a great night out in some bars until the early morning.

So maybe consider changing the itinerary a little bit. I know I would do it.
