Danang-Hoi An- Hue - Danang - Starting afresh

Firstly, I would like to thank all members who responded to my earlier posts in 2012 on the above. I may have responded to some and may have not responded to others. My sincere apologies to all. My plans for the earlier trip did not materialise.

Now my trip is confirmed as my flight has already been booked. Rather than trying to recollect and going through all the various replies, etc.as I have lost touch completely, I would prefer to start afresh and now seek some valuable advice from travel members.

My planned itinerary for a group of 6 is as follows:

May 24 ETA Danang 15:05 from Malaysia

Direct to Hoi An from airport.

May 25 Hoi An

May 26 Hoi An - Hue

May 27 Hue

May 28 Hue to Danang

May 29 Danang to Malaysia ETD 15:30

Would appreciate if members could advise on the following:

1. Is the itinerary ok?

2. Recommendation on hotels in the various city/town

3. Recommendation on transport for a group of 6 with 6 luggages.

4. Recommendation of tour operators at each place for a customised

tour.

5. Recommendations on "must see" places granted that it may be

impossible to see all of the places of interests.

6. Any contacts would be appreciated.

7. Any other advice would be appreciated

Thank you

I think the itinerary is fine. You should visit heritage sites (hue royal citadel & tomb, Hoi An old town) and not miss the countryside of Hoi An and HUe too, especially the Thuy Bieu village in Hue & Cam Thanh village in Hoi An where you may do the basket boat race, lots of fun.

It's a bit rushed, but you could take a taxi van to Hoi An from Da Nang, then hire a van and driver to take you to Hue, telling him to go through the Hai Van Pass, and stop at the Marble Mountain and possibly Lang Co Beach on the way. Going back to Da Nag from Hue you could take the train for a different scenic view, as long as your luggages aren't steamer trunks you'll be fine.

In Hue we really liked the Orchid Hotel, and in Hoi An the Ha An.

The hotels can organise cars, tours etc for you.

In Hoi An, if you wish to visit the historic and cultural sites you will need to get a ticket each at one of the local tourism kiosks which will entitle you to visit five Sites- one from each of fourcategories, and the temple on the Japanese Covered Bridge (the bridge itself is free to all). The tickets are pretty cheap- as I recall less than USD 5.

Thank you Destination Expert for your reply and suggestions.

Your suggestions are of great help in assisting me in my itinerary planning.

Do I really need to get an organised tour for Hoi An or can I do it on my own?

Are all the places within walking distance?

Your feedback on this would be aopreciated.

Once again thank you.

That's OK :-)

Hoi An is very walkable; when you get the historic sites ticket you also get a map. This is what it looked like when I last had one:

world-heritage-site.com/wp-content/uploads/2…

The ticket selling booths are marked on this map.

You choose one each from the museums, assembly halls, old houses, and cultural activities (you don't _have_ to go to one of each but that is the maximum). Of course, if you wanted to visit two museums, or two old houses, you could always buy two tickets, they're certainly cheap.

IMO the only old house worth visiting is the old house of Tan Ky; the others are just places where they try to sell you souvenir stuff. The assembly halls are all pretty neat and Quan Cong's Temple is a bit of a two-for-one deal because (well at least when we were there) if you go all the way to the back there's a door that leads into the Museum of History and Culture without a ticket. I also thought the Museum of Trade Ceramics was worth a visit.

We've really enjoyed the Orchid Hotel in Hue and the Ha An in Hoi An. Both are reasonably priced with nice rooms (the Orchid rooms are very large) and fantastic helpful staff.
