Most of the guests use taxi or car from Danang airport to Hoian. If you use bus ( I think just for fun, bus is low quality and is very very cheap ), you can walk out the airport, turn left around 10 minutes and see an intersection. Turn righ 10metres, you will see a bus board where the Hoian bus will stop.

Notea; The yellow bus goes to Hoian.

If we were to get a bus from the airport into Danang and then a bus to Hoi An, how much would this cost in total? Do the buses go regularly to Hoi An?

Similarly, if we were to get a taxi from the airport to Hoi An directly how much would this cost?

If you were to get a bus from the airport into Danang and then a bus to Hoi An(as I mentioned), this would cost 40.000VND (around 2USD). But the bus just stops at the bus station and you must walk to your hotel if your hotel is around the old town ( it takes you around 15 minutes to walk to the old town. Generally, it is hard for tourists to follow this way or use the local bus to go.

Similarly, if you were to get a taxi from the airport to Hoi An directly, this would cost around 350.000VND= 18USD ( 10.000VND x 35km from the airport to Hoian).
