Vacation in August with small child - too hot?

My wife and I are thinking about spending a couple of weeks in August on vacation in Sharjah with our 2 1/2 year old son. We've read quite a bit about the place and have talked to someone who's been there. Although we like a lot of what we've heard and seen, we're worried it might be a bit too hot. Some sources say it's dry heat, while others say the humidity is terrible. Has anyone on this forum been to Sharjah with children who could share a bit about their experience?

In August the temperature can reach 50C and it can be humid or dry. By September it is often over 90% humidity, The UAE is well geared up for indoor activities and you are not likely to be spending a long time outside. Children differ in how well they can handle the heat. Just make sure you keep your son well hydrated.Juices including fresh cocnut are poopular. And don't stay outside too long. Sun block, hat and any types of cover up with SPF will help. ILME

It's usually very humid in August and uncomfortable being outside for any length of time, the humidity is 24 hours per day, it's doesn't get less in the evening. As ILME says, the country is well geared up for indoor activities.

I don't know anything about hotels in Sharjah but in Dubai the swimming pools are chilled and the children's pools have shades over them so your son could keep cool splashing about in the water under shade. This is assuming you will be staying in a hotel and it has a chilled pool.

Thanks! We're glad to find knowledgable people on this forum. What hotels in Dubai would you recommend with a child? Is there any big difference between the beaches and sea themselves in Dubai and Sharjah? Is the Indian Ocean side of UAE worth considering?

Indian ocean coast is more resort based and the cities are small. If you want shopping and a city break then stick to Dubai or Sharjah. Ajman also is an option. The sea is the same but in August the pool is like a warm bath so a pool is better. Just about all hotels have pools. There are some OK hotels in SHJ but DXB has a lot more choice. Remember it is Ramadan until about 18th August.

I am sure you want to spend more time in Sharjah outside the pool area. For sure it is hot and humid. It is considered a low season therefore you will find good hotel bargains.

You can take your child to the Maritime museum and Sharjah Aquarium. Also Many nice shopping malls such as City center (they have kids play area) and Mega mall.

New splash park has been opened in Al Majaz park on Cornish Khalid, and you can enjoy the park at night.

If your priority is Sharjah, you will find a number of beach hotels. There are a few areas such as museums and parks for children, and some play options for children in Al Qasr area. Bur remember Sharjah is 'dry' per law. At best you can pick up stuff in Dubai Duty Free (not Sharjah airport, no chance) for your personal consumption in the hotel. UAE is very hot and humid up to Sept, even Oct. If your priority on the other hand is to have a good time, Sharjah is not the place. Go see Dubai, where your kids would love all the activities + you too.
