From kiev airport is it far to travel to poltava by train or bus - Thankyou
Hi candytones! Welcome to Ukraine forum :)
Don’t have my railroad map right now to tell you how far Kyiv to Poltava is by railroad. But by automobile road, Poltava is in about 300km from Boryspil airport (ca 338km from Kyiv).
In terms of timing, it takes about 4-4.5hrs by express daily train (ex. Kyiv –Kharkiv #164, 162 that stop in Poltava) or about 5hrs by regular train (ex. #180 daily except Tuesdays).
There’s no railway station at or by Boryspil airport. You can get to Yuzhny/Central railway station in Kyiv from the airport by public bus (UAH 25-30) or by taxi (UAH 250-300).
And it takes about 4.5hrs to get to Poltava by bus. Some buses leave to Poltava from the airport; for example, by Avtolux http://en.autolux.ua/Raspisaniye_is_stoimost
Most part of the road to Poltava used to be of terrible quality (I haven’t been there this year, but last year it was a disaster). So it won’t be much faster by taxi/hired car, although more comfortable, but also way more expensive.
Have a safe trip!
I am looking at making a trip to Poltava this summer or early fall. I went in summer of 2008 and rented a car at the airport to drive myself. I think at the time it was about 160 Euro for the weeks rental and I made it to Poltava from the airport in about 3.5 hours starting at 16:30 and arriving at 20:00. The road itself was not bad compared to roads in the midwestern US where there is equivalent weather. The rental company made me aware of a 140 Euro damage cost if I damaged a wheel. However, the holes in the road on the highway were easily avoided in daytime. Some of the local roads had large holes but driving slowly through them or around them was no problem. I don't know what the last three winters has done to the roads or how quickly they are repaired.
This time, I am interested to go by train or bus also and not worry about the car. I found taxis in Poltava very reasonable.
Thanks for that information about the train and bus Cora. :)
Hi Everetttraveler :)
You've got the guts! :) I hated the slow zig-zag driving needed to avoid all the holes on Poltava road; it was more stressful and irritating rather than pleasant.
Incidentally, last night I talked to a friend who drives regularly to see some relatives in Poltavska area. He said surprisingly the road works were on, and some part of this road has been repaired after last winter. But it's still too far from what he would call decent.
Please, note that seasonal changes are possible in train and bus schedules. So please, come back to the forum to update this info closer to your trip!
Welcome to Ukraine forum, Mikey!
Are you asking about trip to Poltava from the airport? If so:
Cost of taxi in Kyiv has increased recently. Average tariff for inter-urban ride presently stands at UAH 3.5 - 4.0/km.
With the distance KBP - Poltava of about 300km and at present UAH:EUR ex-rate of about 11.05, you might expect something around EUR 95-110 (indicatively).
Note, however, that Ukrainian hryvnia is the only legal currency to pay for the goods and services on the territory of Ukraine.
As I said in #1, you can also take a bus on this rout.
Ideally, the distance between KBP and Poltava could be covered in about 3.5hrs by car. But if the road construction works that are presently underway there will still be on when you travel, the trip might take longer.
Have a safe one.
Jorney will take aproximatelly 4.5 hours.
If you want only Taxi, it would be cheaper to hire one from Poltava (as Kiev taxi services make request more money).
But I suggest you bus. It is only 10 Euro!
Don't use Taxi drivers that stay on exit of airport, they will take from you twice more.

Thanks for your replies everyone... they are helping me to make a decision... about the bus Maksym, ... I do not know the language so it will be difficult for me to find the bus station and the correct bus... unless bus station is next to airport??? I have translated Poltava in Ukraine language to Полтавський so that is a start... a bus number would be ideal...
Mikey, please, read my #1 above if you have not done it when posted your question.
There is the link to Avtolux bus company. They (a) have an English web-site with time-table; (b) offer on-line booking of tickets, and there were reports on this forum that it works fine; (c) have a ticket selling desk in Boryspil airport, if you prefer to buy on spot; (d) run from KBP to Poltava as well, so you don't have to go to the city.
Poltava in Ukrainian is ПОЛТАВА.Edited: 3:20 pm, September 13, 2011
Mikey, one more bus carrier for you to check is Gunsel www.gunsel.com.ua/index.php… Also with an English web-site; also leaving from Boryspil. They don't seem to offer on-line booking, but also have a desk in KBP.
Check the buses to Kharkiv; they run through Poltava. Note that you don't pay full rate, but KBP-Poltava leg only.
