According to Thomas cook website:

xcess baggage Charges

Question

What are the charges for excess baggage?

Answer

For Thomas Cook Airlines' flights the charges are as follows:

Departing UK

£4 per kilo short-haul, £8 per kilo long-haul.

On return

Europe € 6, $10 long-haul except Cyprus where the charge is £3.50 per kilo.

For all other airlines, please check with the airline direct, or send us an e-mail

We flew out with Flythomascook last Sept and got charged 88.00 for being 22kilos over they are very strict when it comes to being over weight, friends have just flown to Izmir one was over by 50K and another by 40K never got charged that was with a Turkish airline

Excess baggage charge is set by the airlines and so applied by all carriers at about £4 per kilo. The discretion on charging is up to the clerk on the check-in desk. If you're only a bit over they seem to forgive up to 5-6 kilos but if its ten or more they may charge you for all or part of the overload.

Depends on factors like the no of seats occupied, the number of people in your party (the more people the less tolerance) which side of the bed s/he got out of etc.

Put heavy things in hand luggage and try to keep it looking small!!

Good luck

Think you could be right, if having a bad day. Our plane was only half full, none of us had any hand luggage which the weight could have been wavered or at least some of it. we flew with virgin to India and my friends case weighed 37lb no charge there and you would have expected that!
