We are planning a last-minute trip (10 days in Sept) to Turkey, and hope to spend 3 nights in Goreme to explore the Cappadocia area, before heading to the Aegean coast (Cesme, Alacati, Kusadaci, etc). Is 3 nights (2 full days) a good amount of time in the Goreme area? (We want to hike, explore the caves and underground city, take a balloon ride). Flights to the coast appear to be difficult, especially if one wants to avoid losing time transiting through IST (which most flights seem to do). Atlas and other airlines do have some flights, but not daily. So we are struggling with how to plan this. We would like to fly to/from Goreme, then have a rental car for our time on the coast. Other suggestions for getting to the coast (Izmir or Cesme area) besides Atlas and Pegasus?? We could get a rental car in Goreme, but know that would be a big distance to the coast, and wouldn't want to do it without a nice stopover place to visit between Goreme and Izmir (if there is one). We're also looking at our 8-9 nights on the coast, considering Cesme, Alacati, Kusadaci and certainly a visit to Ephesus (which we have been to, but want to go back). We have been to Turkey before, and will not be stopping in IST as we have been many times. Focus this time is seeing new things, hiking and visiting ruins, and wonderful swimming in turquoise water. We avoid tourist traps and crowds, do not like group tours, and are active, independent travelers. All advice welcome! I realize this is more than one question for the forum! Thanks for any insights!
