Been to Lara and not a lot outside of the hotels i.e. a few shops etc but not a lot else but Side has a good mixture of hotels, restaurants, shops, harbour and plenty of hotels just outside of Side as well and a quick domush ride away.

At lara now and yes it is hotel based, Antalya is a short bus ride away(40mins) which the old town is lovely. Good hotels at lara ( in the main!)

Side is a beautiful old town lots of Ronan ruins, temple of Apollo, amphitheatre and plenty of other ruins. Good hotels like voyage sorgun, sentido perissia, crystal sunrise, but some would say not as good as those in lara or Belek but more to do outside the hotels, like a walk along the prom they have made

Good luck with your choice.

We've been happy with the Barut chain. We've stayed at the Barut Hemera (about to have a winter refurb) which is fine for all ages/families & are currently at the Barut Andiz (Thomson Couples for ages 16 & over; small hotel with only 126 rooms, altho 10 more will be added during winter, when it closes).

This is our 2nd stay at the Andiz, which only opened in May '13. It has good reviews, with few 'niggles'. Altho it doesn't lead all the way thru to its own section of the beach (unlike its sister hotels) as it's separated by a grassy area, it has a lot of 'plus points'. You can see my photo link under the 'Barut Andiz photos' thread. The gym has had more equipment added since May.

People also seem happy with the sister hotels, which are larger, like the afore-mentioned 'Hemera' (loved the grassy area there for sunbathing, away from the pool) the 'Arum', & 'Cennet+Acanthus'. The Side Prenses commands a good view over the bay & looks pretty luxurious as do some of the 'Crystal' chain (some are very large, covering a lot of land).

The Andiz is about 20min walk into Side, along the prom, past shops & cafes/restaurants, the Cennet+Acanthus is 25mins, Hemera 40-45 & the Arum maybe an hour's walk but there are the local Dolmus buses into Side as well, for those who don't want to walk. The Side Prenses is probably 40mins walk in. There are plenty of exchange shops, pharmacies around. The post office gives good rates & is walkable from the hotels mentioned. There's a Saturday market that's worth a visit, on the edge of Side, a lovely harbour & many criss-crossing streets, full of wares, in Side itself, the Side museum (small but worth a visit, extensive ruins all around & within Side, in addition to the 'official' ruins that can be visited.

We sat at a cafe, on the sea-front today, at the start of our return walk to the Andiz, & part of that is built into the ruins! We saw a 'wild' tortoise walk across, in front of us, last week, near some other ruins, across a quiet track. There are 'random' bits of ruins all over the place; they'd be carted off in the UK, but they're not defaced, or stolen here. We walked past a sarcophagus lid, near the remains of an ancient tomb today, when crossing the road. I know that sounds rather strange!

Hello

Pleased you have been to Icmeler and hoped you enjoyed it as it is beautiful.Lara Beach does have some excellent hotels. We stayed at The Miracle Resort which was very good but in our 2nd week, mid November we were the only 2 British there, so not geared up for us. Pick a British hotel if you like evening entertainment. Lara BeAch is good for travelling to Perge and Aspendos as well as Antalya. We are going to Side in 2 weeks as we enjoyed our day trip there but I would say both have their advantages. Depends what kind of holiday you want. Lara is very expensive compared to Icmeler if shopping.
