First time looking at Kalkan

Hi

I've had a good look through the forum but can't find the answer. We've been to Side the past two years (going to the East beach and the more un-commercialised bit) however, this year, we noticed two things

Firstly there were huge amounts of Russian tourists who pushed in, barged past, got really drunk and were generally unpleasant to be around. etc. I don't want to generalise and am aware that we would only have noticed the annoying Russians tourists but it got really frustrating after a few days.

Secondly Side itself has got more commercialised - there were less areas to visit to stay away from the 5* all inclusives and hoards and hoards of people + nearly everything is not priced in euros

Is Kalkan less commercialised and more Turkish?

Many thanks and apologies if this has already been answered and I just haven't seenit!

interesting trying to compare Akyaka and Kalkan, we have been to both many times. love both places, but trying to compare.... totally different with many similarities!! yes less brits in Akyaka more a turkish resort, villas and hotels are more basic and in general food more Turkish/Asian whilst Kalkan has more upmarket accommodation (although there is a range available) the food is more Turkish/European (although there is a massive range!). In both places the holiday makers are mainly independent travellers rather than big travel company masses.

To reinforce the message, Kalkan has many fantastic restaurants and the general quality is very high. I would say much better than Kas !

Re the Russian tourists - we used to travel to Kalkan with the "old" Tapestry using their Sunday flights. If you ever saw drunken rowdy behaviour at Dalaman airport it was usually from the Russians waiting for their flights home. I've heard from friends who've been to large all inclusive hotels in the Antalya area, Cyprus and Egypt that their behaviour was bad.
