Alanya First Timers

Hello all.

I hope some one can be of assistance.

We are currently considering our holiday options for this year and we seem to have narrowed it down to the Antalya region of Turkey and a few of the Greek Islands.

The last two summers we have been to Marmaris and have enjoyed the things to do in the day (such as boat trips, jeep safaris, water park) and have also enjoyed the nightlife even though we only ventured into 'Bar Street' once and it was a bit too busy and expensive if truth be told.

We are in out mid thirties and was wandering if Alanya would offer us something similar. We like trying new places and the initial research I have done seems to suggest that there are many beautiful places to go an visit with a vibrant nightlife to boot.

We have seen the Hotel Alayie near Kleopatra beach being advertised at a reasonable price and was wandering whether this is a decent hotel and whether it is close to the local sights and nightlife. We don't want to be too close to the nightlife and about a 10-15 min would would be ideal.

Many thanks in advance for helping.

it is a very beautiful area. In august it will be very hot but as you will be there towards the end of the month and early Sept you will be able to manage. Check out if your hotel has working airconditioning included in room fees as sometimes they tell you it is but when you get there it is not, this is because electricity can be expensive. Some places expect you to pay extra for a fan. If mossies like you take your anti-histamines and garlic before you come and spray yourselves ankles, toes and hands esp when going out. Flat shoes as you will be walking a lot and beach shoes such as crocs as sand can be burning at that time of year. cool off in Dim Cay or the caves. Get the local bus up to the castle and spend day there and pop into one of the places on the hillside and taxi back down or bus it. very easy to find yourway around and do not book all your excursions from the hotel check the prices there and decide what you want to do and then go walkabout and decide yourselves and haggle for extras. All will collect you from hotel anyhow. Plenty of clubs around the harbour area but as others said pay as you go and be careful. Drinks are expensive here, beer is ok but spirits v expensive. Better to bring some duty free with you and be choosy when out. Tip your serving staff and room service early on and you will be ok. Dont bring too much as you will be buying loads of stuff. Everything you are used to is available here so get your towels here at the market and your shampoo etc. Leather and gold and silver great value but decide before you come if that is what you want and decide your budget. very easy to go exploring by dolmus as the bus will take you all along the coastline and just hop off and on at will. You can get travel cards now easily. Enjoy. This is a lovely time to go as many are gone back for the start of school so it is not as busy as it has been.

Again many thanks for the comments.

Nightlife doesn't have to be too load and brash but it's just nice to have somewhere to go in the evening with some music. Harbour area sounds OK just to grab a drink and watch the world go by.

During the day it seems that there is plenty of things to do (boattrips, castle, beach etc). Sure it'll be hot as well and I am glad that it will be a bit quieter than during very high season. Nothing against them but I don't want to be surrounded by lots of kids!

In regards to where we are staying at the Monart City Hotel on the East beach.

Does anyone know if there are any barsrestaurants on this side between the hotel and the harbour (or going further east for that matter) that we can go to if fancying a change from the hotel and harbour area.

We usually do find some ourselves by going on a wander but is always useful to know beforehand so that we can hit the ground running as it were.

Many thanks

Hi,

You will be delighted with the range that is available, There are over 1000 restaurants/bars in the area!!! Just hop on the local dolmus and go up the coast road and hop off at Oba, Tosmur or anywhere even venture further up to Gazipasha or Demitas or Mahmutlar and enjoy the day there and get the bus back. Plenty of places to cross the main road at. Just go out ready to stay out and bring whatever you will need for the evening too, light jacket or wrap in your bag and you are ready to go. Enjoy.

Hi, we stayed at monart city hotel in 2012 (it was then called the gold hotel, the monart is the gold hotel and the aytap joined and completely refurbed) anyway we had a truly fantastic time and the location is absolutely spot on.

beach a stone throw away, plenty of shops and bars in immediate area and views from hotel to die for.

we used 'the flamingo' restaurant a few times, located across the road and about 200yds towards town, fabulous food, great service and good prices with some brilliant entertainment and the best cocktails I've ever had. (you are practically sat on the beach, watching the sea by moonlight, its breath-taking)

I would return to Alanya and the monart city in a heartbeat.

Enjoy your hols

Hope you have a really good time as 'm sure you will,

regards

Lynne

Thank you Lynne. Just the information we needed.

Even though we like going to see things, going on trips and going for walks it is still nice to know there is plenty to do near the hotel.
