I'm staying 800 metres from kata beach and they want 150 baht, and about 2000 metres from karon beach and it's 200 baht, they are both very nice, but a fair distance from patong, they want 500-600 baht for us to go to patong so it is probably the same the other way, both kata and karon are very nice, we prefer karon though.

It may have been our state of natural inebriation (at least it was a natural high to begin with) but we loved our little visit to the reggae bar on the beach in the Laguna area (not the Kata one, which was also a great place to go for drinks). It's a bit past the Banyan Tree (past their Villas on the beach itself), down a dilapidated road. The rest of Bang Tao Bay was very nice too, but the reggae bar was like a blast from the past. TBH, you'd want to be visiting the Laguna area anyway, not just making a special trip there, but Laguna is a lovely sweeping bay, with many good on-beach restaurants. If you don't want to travel so far, go to the reggae bar at Kata Beach for a sunset. Catch the happy hour at the Boathouse on your way.

Oh tuk tuk fares. We got Patong to Karon for 300 baht easy enough, but the return Karon to Patong the Karon mafia wanted 500 baht. Huge battle to get the ride for 400 baht. Be aware also it seems to go up after 5.30 pm as some road gets closed at 6 and they have a longer journey back.

We recently spent the day at Laem Sighn beach, great for swimming snorkeling. No idea on taxi price as we drove ourselves.

We usually stay at the Katathani in Kata Noi and the beach is lovely.
