Trip to Bankok

Hi.

Will be spending 20 nights in Phuket & was contemplating a trip to Bankok for an overnight stay, so the misses can do some shopping. can arrange a driver & vehicle (4000 bht for 2 days), & thought this might be a good trip, as we could see some of the countryside as well.

Any thoughts on this, how long would it take, or should we just fly up there via domestic airline, any idea on price by flying.

Open to all thoughts

The road trip to Bangkok takes an exhausting 10-12 hours (give or take). The flight is little over an hour. Check Nok Air and Air Asia for the cheapest rates.

It'd be the equivalent of driving from Sydney to the Gold Coast for an overnight shopping trip, without the Australian standards of road safety we're used to.

Follow DragonC's advice and take a domestic flight for the princely sum of around AU$70 each return - it takes an hour.

Add another AU$12 for your taxi from the airport to your chosen hotel and under AU$10 for the return leg.

Getting a taxi from the airport to your chosen hotel is easy... some tips for that here;

Sort yourself out a nice central hotel - e.g. Pathumwan Princess is part of the MBK shopping complex, it's not cheap, but your missus will never get through all of it in the time allowed.

When you decide which hotel suits you best, there's advice here for hunting down the best deal on-line;

Seriously, driving that far for an overnighter is madness.... the thought of then driving all the way back again is bordering on lunacy. Have a great trip.

I got a cheap flight with Air Asia from phuket to bangkok, $11 Aus each way, plus a few dollars for luggage because i paid in Baht.

Hi, if you have to fly home via bangkok then i would suggest a 2 night (you need that) stopover on the way home if your time allows, or a side trip by plane if you cant,(dont drive!) and i agree Pathumwan Princess best hotel for shopping at MBK, as it goes straight into the shopping centre, and it has a nice pool area for you to relax while she shops with your credit card ha ha! we stayed there last year, had 5 nights and wow! your missus will go balistic at MBK its massive! good bargains on 6th floor, but if you go to bkk try make time for the' river of kings' dinner cruise one evening its fantastic.
