Maesai-Tachileik Rumours

There have been a new bill passed by the government of Burma (Myanmar to those that recognise the name change) allowing payment of US$10 per week to stay and visit further inland than is currently allowed.

Whilst it is not currently permitted, it is expected to open up in 2014. you should be able to enter at any of 3 land crossing points and exit at another, this includes Tachileik.

This would allow travelling further inland, including the renowned hot springs near Tachileik not currently available to foreigners on day trips.

This is good news. I'll look forward to visiting the hot springs on a 2014 trip.
