Sands or Ramada in May

Hi, I'm planning a trip in mid May and have read that some places will be shut so want to be near a town for restaurants and bars so was looking at either the Sands or the Ramada. We are a mid 40's couple. Which area/hotel would anyone recommend ?

The Sands is direct beachfront on Nang Thong Beach with its main entrance on the highway at the northern end of Bang La On, the main township of Khao Lak were most restaurants, bars and shops are located. There are beach restaurants to the right within easy walking distance, how many remaining open in May depending on the weather and beach conditions.

The Ramada is located a couple of kilometres north on Bang Niang Beach with plenty of restaurants, bars and shops nearby also but tends to be a bit quieter than Bang La On. The same restaurants near the Sands are to the left across the creek onto Nang Thong Beach, so the same comments apply, although there are others to the right that overlook the beach so stay open longer. The three times a week market takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1pm to 7pm at the top of the beach road.

See maps for both locations if you haven't already at tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g297914-i10908-k…
