Sun Moon cakes?

Hi,

Can I know where to get nice sun moon cakes while in Taichung?

I read somewhere there's one near the railway station, and there's another one near Shin Kong Mitsukoshi. Where exactly is the one near the railway stn so that I can have a chance to try both? :)

Thanks.

Tako,

2 years ago, CC has this to suggest:

............................................

TAI YANG BING (SUN CAKES):

Jiufen shops, hypermarts, supermarkets and freeway rest stops sell them, but the home of the tai yang bing is Taichung.

TAICHUNG / TAI YANG TANG 太陽堂

Taiwan's favorite---the original tai yang bing (only 1 store, no branches, but plenty of imitators)

No. 23 Tze Yo (Freedom) St. Sec. 2、Taichung 台中市西區自由路二段23號

(04) 2222-2662

TAICHUNG / JUINN MEEI 俊美食品

A hot favorite among forumers.

4 locations: http://www.food168.com.tw/house.htm

http://www.food168.com.tw/poducts-list.htm

JIUFEN / LI YI

Forumers have been raving about their tai yang bing.

Unit #68, Jiufen old street

Hihi,

Whoops, you noticed. *bleh*... How are you? :)

I simply cannot resist Jetstar's mailers if they advertise TW flight fares. Their 1-for-1 fare sale last mth takes the cake. $200+ per pax with taxes. The cheapest fare so far! How to resist? :p Going in Oct this time round, so erm, got 6 mths difference? *self-consolation @ bank account*

Thanks for helping me to dig out the info. Will check out the genuine one. Lol.

Li Yi Cake Shop 李仪饼家 is no longer at No 68 Jiufen Old Street 九份老街 (Ji-shan Street). It had shifted to outside Jiufen Old Street. It is now located along the main road, just diagonally opposite the 7-eleven convenience store at the road bend where the bus stops are.

Hi,

Just sharing what I've collated from my research on the many popular/original shops (as they claim):

1. 魏清海太阳饼老店

taiwandao.org/techan/taizhong/093501129.html

www.sunnycake.tw

2. 阿明师老店太阳堂

…blogspot.com/2004/12/blog-post_19.html

www.suncake.com.tw/ under construction I think

3. 台中市太阳饼

About 李儀餅店, there is a very convenient outlet near Taipei main station. 台北站*站前*地下街11-2B

TaiwanDIY, thks for updating us on LeeYi store in Jiufen.

Actually when I first bought n tasted Jiufen Lee's pineapple cakes, I felt they were nothing to shout abt.

Then I tasted other brands of pineapple cakes in Taipei n 1 mass market version in Singapore's supermarket - I realised Lee's ones are not that bad after all. ;-)

Mrslye, thks for sharing. Those are good info. :-)

Do U guys notice: the website names are pretty unimaginative -

sunnycake, suncake.. And the one that really takes the cake is: sunbooth ha!

Lecake is the most distinctive of all.

Tako,

Of course I noticed - not just U but (dare I say "all") forumers who appear n disappear in these forums.

Wa seh! SGD200 per pax? Worth it man!

Oct's a good time to be in Taiwan. U already $aved in yr airfares, so got yrself a bit more leeway in spending when touring.. :-)

I love to eat. Enjoy some kinds of Taiwan pastries. But I'm not too much into sniffing out the "authentic" sources.

We bought 2 boxes of Sun biscuits @ TTIAirport before departure. They tasted good. Good enough for me to like Sun biscuits.

Happy planning!

..... Clarifying.. .....

In my post #6 here, I said:

"Then I tasted other brands of pineapple cakes in Taipei n 1 mass market version in Singapore's supermarket - I realised Lee's ones are not that bad after all. ;-)"

The mass market version in Singapore supermarket is imported from Taiwan.

Just to be sure U know I'm making fair comparison between pineapple cakes from same source - Taiwan.

Xie xie for yr understanding.
