Chinjing and Hua lien scenic spots

Hi All guru, i have some questins specific to hua lien:

1. What and where is chin jing? Can we spend just few hours there while visiting Taroko Gorge?

2. What are other scenic spots in Hua lian other then Taroko Gorge?

3. Where to stay and where to eat in Hua lien? Any recommendation?

4. I need to go to Gao Shiung the next day. So, should i take a train from Hua lian direct to Gao shiung? or should i go back taipei city and take a bus to Gao shiung? Cost about the same. May be smoother ride too..not so mountainous too.

Visitors come to Cingjing Farm to enjoy the tranquility of the mountains and the vast grassy plains. Located in Nantou County at an elevation of 1750m above sea level, clouds frequently form in the valleys below while the sky above is blue and clear (depending on the season).

Some of the activities you can do in Cingjing farm:

Come close to the sheep grazing on the grassy plains;

Green Green Grasslands (Evergreen Grasslands);

Watch sheep shearing show;

Come close to the cow and goat herds;

Take a refreshing walk along any of the six strolling trails;

Ski down the grassy slopes;

Learn about cultivation of temperate-zone flowers, fruits and vegetables (depending on the season);

Watch butterflies and birds;

Visit the Small Swiss Garden;

Visit Shou Shan Park;

Visit the Recreation Centre (Mist Plaza -- 7-11, Starbucks);

Visit the Stock Nurturing Center;

Visit nearby Hohuan Mountain to enjoy the snow during winter months (subject to weather conditions).

Taroko Gorge to Cingjing Farm is at least 100km or more apart. It takes about 3 hrs drive through the mountainous road. To give you an idea of the travelling times and approximate distances:

Hualien > Taroko takes about 0.5 hr drive (25 km)

Taroko > Tienhsiang takes about 0.5 hr drive (19 km)

Tienhsiang > Dayuling takes about 1.5 hrs drive (58 km)

Dayuling > Cingjing Farm takes about 1 hr drive (40km)

Popular snacks/food in downtown Hualien include muah-chee (mo-chi), bian-shi (dumpling soup) and steamed meat buns.

From Hualien > Kaohsiung:

a) By railway trains via Taitung takes about 4.5 to 7+hrs (depending on time of departure and type of train).

b) By railway trains to Taipei takes about 2 to 3 hrs. At Taipei Main Station, transfer to HSR trains for Kaohsiung. Travel time: another 2 hrs.

c) By Mandarin Airlines. Flight time: about 55 mins
