Goldie Sands or Paradise Beach

First time visit planned next year in Feb following several years to Goa, looking at these two hotels which are in our price bracket. Are either placed in a better situation than the other, ie close proximity to restaurants and bars and nightlife. Any info please be gratefully received, many thanks.

Negombo is close to the airport, but the beaches are not among the best beaches in Sri Lanka.

Hi Hans

Please can you elaborate, is this because the sea is rougher, busier, dirtie? Any areas you would recommend instead?

Hi Josie,

More dirty, more narrow and a bit more busy than in some better resorts. It's a fishermans town close to Colombo, and that causes often a bit muddy and smelly water; also the 'natural' beaches are stony, yellow sand has been added at places.

Hikkaduwa is Sri Lankas 'Goa' but all beaches from Bentota/Beruwala onwards to the south are quite decent.

All the best,

Thanks Erik, I will take a look at hotels in that area. We intend to do the two/three night tour so looking as to where is best to travel from for these. Any info again would be appreciated, even to costs etc.

Hi again,

You could visit Kandy/Pinawela and then the Hills (Eliya, Ella/Haputale) in 2 or 3 nights from a base south of Colombo like this. Or even directly from airport do the tour and then have drop-off at the beach hotel.

All the best,
