What is an acceptable tip in Sri Lanka for a driver, bellboy, room service and at restaurants. Is it advisable to tip end of your stay in the hotel?
Driver LKR 500/day. Bell boy LKR 50-100. Room service LKR 500/week. Restaurant depends whether service charge is included or not.
There are several threads in this forum on tips.
Whether or no there is service charge, it is a praise to tip anything over Rs.100 at a restaurant. However, nothing wrong in not doing so!
Thanks a lot !!!
Our driver/ guide has been really good should I give him his tip in British Pounds or Sri Lankan Rupees? Also what would you tip housekeeping per day?
Always tip in LKR.
You can give either. For house keeping fair to say 500 rupees per week/stay
Yes, always tip in local currency, housekeeping staff are quite poor people and may not be have thier own bank accounts, therefore not able to pay foreign currency in, and even if they could, they would lose out in exchange fees.., NEVER tip in foreign coins..
Would agree, for room attendants 500 Rupees would be a reasonable tip per week...
500 Rupees is not a lot. Is this really the going rate as a tip for a weeks housekeeping?
Yes it is. Be aware that the room attendant handles tens of rooms, so multiply by e.g. 30 makes Rs 15000 as weekly tip _if_ all tourists would give this...
All the best,
