Back in the early 80's my husband and I made a week-long side-trip through Sri Lanka. One night we stayed in a (then, very new) hotel, not far north of Galle that had the internal construction of a ship's hull. It was wonderfull! The dining room was situated in the bottom of the "hull" and walkways over this areas led to the rooms (cabins?). The rooms were beautifully designed with slits to the exterior, above the bed, and slots on either side. This allowed such plentiful sea-breezes to enter that aircon was not warrented. I have long forgotten the name of this wonderful hotel and wonder if it still exists as it was consructed on a high, rocky, seabord. I would love to revisit, as this is one of my lingering memories of Sri Lanka.
