A "Ship's hull" hotel down Galle way.

Back in the early 80's my husband and I made a week-long side-trip through Sri Lanka. One night we stayed in a (then, very new) hotel, not far north of Galle that had the internal construction of a ship's hull. It was wonderfull! The dining room was situated in the bottom of the "hull" and walkways over this areas led to the rooms (cabins?). The rooms were beautifully designed with slits to the exterior, above the bed, and slots on either side. This allowed such plentiful sea-breezes to enter that aircon was not warrented. I have long forgotten the name of this wonderful hotel and wonder if it still exists as it was consructed on a high, rocky, seabord. I would love to revisit, as this is one of my lingering memories of Sri Lanka.

ind_8 is almost correct on this one. The name of the hotel is Tangalla BAY Hotel. The hotel's website says it's the only hotel in Sri Lanka built in the shape of a ship and mentions the rooms as 'cabins' (captain's and crew's).

Don't stay there now though!! It's really run down. It's not north of Galle though, it's in Tangalle.

Ask Sue from St Austell, she's stayed there quite recently.
