Driving from Cincinnati to Maine-Most Scenic Stops

Our family is driving from Cincinnati to Acadia, Maine and staying a week there. We have 3 boys 16, 14 and 10. On the way home we wanted to take 3 extra nights. We were thinking of driving through New Hampshire and Vermont and stopping in the Andirondacks for two nights and then driving to Niagara Falls for 1 night. Should we stay one night in the White Mountains instead and 1 night in the Andirondacks instead?

When?

What are you planning to do beside driving? Sightseeing from a car, hiking, skiing, eating out, what else? The areas you are driving through are great for all outdoor activities. It is going to be a very long drive from Acadia to the Adirondacks. I never drove between these two destinations during a winter. YOU need to decide where you want to stay because every place you mentioned is a great stop for a night, a week, or longer. It really depends when you are traveling and your family's interests. If you post this question on NH forum surely White Mountains are going to be recommended. The same goes for Vermont, Adirondacks. I suggest you ask your boys and all decide. How can I decide for you between White Mountains and the Adirondacks?I used to rock climb and hiked extensively in White Mountains. The Adirondacks have a lot to offer, ideal for hiking, skiing and have a special place in my heart.
