Snow at Christmas ??

We are renting a cottage in Croghan over Christmas. What are the chances of snow ?? We will have our 4 grandchildren with us and they are really hoping for a white Xmas - it will be their first !

Hi. I read your post and want to offer some info.

Upstate New York and Snow should be synonyms. It's snows plenty up here, and the white stuff sticks around for a while, so even if it didn't snow in the last couple of weeks, there's likely to be snow on grass and over the open field areas that will linger until it melts come spring time or someone plows it (which doens't happen if it's not a major road way, driveway or other main fairway). While upstate, be sure to take the grandkids for applecider donuts and hot cinnamon apple cider. Local apple orchards do that stuff and there may be one or two open around late December. In the mountains of the adirondacks you are likely to get in a good snow ball fight so bring gloves for everyone and the camera to capture the special memories. Have a wonderful holiday with your grandchildren!

Technically, Croghan is not in the Adirondacks, but it IS on the edge of the Tug Hill snow belt, so the possibility of snow is good. We live in the Adirondacks near Lake Placid, and in the last ten years, last year was the only non-white Christmas. Have fun and make sure the children have WARM clothing!
