Message for Masie:

Hello Masie,

I have been reading your posts on your wedding in the Seychelles. It sounds perfect and almost identical to the kind of 'do' we would opt for.

Would you mind answering a few questions I have please?

1) Who did you book with? Was it Kuoni direct? And how soon before you married did you book?

2) Did Bird Island have alot of spiders? I know that sounds strange; my partner has a real problem with spiders. No other insects bother him, but it would honestly ruin our time there if he was freaking out all of the time.

3) I know it's crude, but costings? We have an absolute max budget of 7k - we'd prefer about 6k, but will go to 7 if needed. Are we living in cuckoo land thinking that 7k will pay for the kind of wedding we are dreaming of?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Regards.

Hi

I got married in The Seychelles in 2000. We booked through Kuoni who arranged our wedding for us at Sunset Beach on Mahe. (their wedding brochure has all the details including costs)

We had to be in The Seychelles for 5 working days before our wedding, we changed our booking 3 months before we got married (in order to get married there) so I don't think there's a time issue on booking though they will want copies of documents before you go - so you'll have to allow time for that.

We've been to Bird Island twice & not noticed spiders on either trip there (I have a similar problem to your other half) There's one called a palm spider which is the size of a small hand, but I've seen one in two 3 week holiday to the Seychelles & to be honesy it wasn't as scary as I imagine coming face to face with a tarantula or some such spider would be!

Costs - the wedding costs were about £500-£600 from memory - the rest is down to hotels, flights etc which is personal choice. There are a few different flight options & a variety of hotels so I would have thought you'll be able to get what you want within budget.

good luck!

Hi Bimmer

I have read Masies 'wedding report' and we had nearly the same experience.

We went through Just Seychelles and they were very helpful. We booked around 5 months in advance for wedding and holiday at the Sunset Beach Hotel in 2003 (we just decided one summer day and booked a day for November).

It was just two of us and our witnesses were the Hotel Manager and our rep. We were the only people who got married that day and we were not rushed at all. I booked my hairdresser who came to the hotel few hours before the wedding, we had a nice cake, champagne, flowers.

We booked a photographer - some photos were taken by the swimmingpool, some on the beach.

Included in this wedding was a HUGE dinner (in the same area where we got married). It was so tasty and sooo romantic :)

We spent little over 3.5 thousand pounds on 6 nights in Junior Suite including all the wedding fees, 4 copies of the wedding certificate (including apostile) and transfers.

Re: spiders!! I am VERY scared of spiders and there is loads of them even on Mahe (they are mainly between the electric cables hanging in the air). First I was shocked to see hundreds of them in huge webbs but by the third day I got use to it and they didn't bother me at all. They are quite big but I only saw them outside 'beside' the road.

Oh, that has made me feel a lot better, knowing we can at least afford it!

I dont think I'll tell him about there being spiders all around!! Hopefully he might miss them & what he doesn't know wont hurt him :)

Seriously though, Thank You very much for your help and advice. It's really appreciated.

Hi glad we've been able to help - enjoy planning your holiday, there's some amazing hotels in some beautiful locations to choose from.

I obviously didn't look as close as Zabka for spiders - to be honest I didn't know about them before I went the first time - I must have been there at least 10 days before I spotted one! - so I guess if your other half doesn't look for them..

Any more thoughts or questions post again & I'm sure someone wi'll be able to help...

hi there!! sorry but havent been online for a while!

We booked through a local travel agent. But I wouldnt hesistate booking through Kuoni direct if I was booking now either. Remember the chaps at kuoni can tailor make your holiday for you....if you want more nights on the main island or if you want to extend on a smaller island, or a stop off somewhere else.

We booked over a year in advance,....firstly im a naturally organised person - so I like to plan ahead. also it gave us time to save up!

Your budget sounds fine to me..(depending on your hotel)..we took about £1800 spending money..but came home with lots as apart from food and drink and the odd souvenir there's not a lot else to spend money on. Bear in mind we had to pay for the video, and photos locally as this was not included in our wedding package, so save some money back for that.

From what i can remember included in our package was the cake, champagne reception, decorated veranda, flowers (chose colour and style with wedding co-ordinator) and flowers for the groom's suit.

We got married at 3pm - and no-one else got married on that day. Check with whoever you book with that your chosen hotel only has 1 wedding a day if you prefer this.

I had my hair done by the hotel hairdresser, we were asked if we wanted to go to the "wedding veranda" together or whether I wanted to come last and hubby watch me walk traditionally down "the aisle". We chose the 1st one - and walked to get married together. We felt quite special as we had one waitress cutting the cake, another pouring champagne and some others just stood waiting to help us if we needed it.

We had the wedding co-ordinator and a friendly hotel rep as our witnesses. We had loads of photos - locations chosen by us. The service was as romantic as the setting and after we were married we strolled in our wedding gear along the beach. The hotel arranged a banquet in the evening (got very drunk!) and we had champagne breakfast in the morning.

Our photos and video were delivered to the hotel room within a matter of days as was the wedding certificate.

BIRD ISLAND - wonderful - typical deserted island, not luxury 5 star - but natural, empty beaches, four poster bed - no aircon - ceiling fan, blue blue sea.....never saw one spider (and im scared stiff of spiders!) lots of birds, and lizards (gekko's), and crabs (night-time). Didnt sleep well the 1st night, but after that you get used to it. Would highly recommend it, food was excellent and im a very fussy eater. No tv, no roads, no cars, no radio - complete relaxation and you get a chance to mix in with the few other guests staying on the island. Pack light- as the luggage limit on the bird island plane is light - we left a lot back in our hotel in mahe as we returned back to mahe for another week before going home.

any more questions or queries im happy to answer!!

let me know how you are getting on.

where are you thinking of staying on mahe??

Oh, thanks so much for your time!

I've found a really nice lady (Christine) that someone recommended on this site. So far her company has been the only one that has bothered to get back to me, she has been so helpful that I'm sure we'll book through her, although admitedly, it would be silly not to get other quotes elsewhere. I will definitly try Kuoni.

Reading all about your wedding has made me so excited!

We had planned to book for September 2008, but after listening to Christine, who seems to have great knowledge of the Seychelles, we have decided to put it back 6 months to March 09. Christine said the weather is more likely to be better then and the sea smoother - as we asked her what month she'd choose to get married out there. It also gives us that extra time to save too, which will obviously help.

Sorry, I cant remember when you married. Was it Sept or Aug? How did you find the weather and sea conditons?

So far we are thinking of spending 5 nights and marrying at either Hilton Northolme or Fishermans Cove on Mahe, followed by either 9 nights on Denis Island or 4 nights on Denis and 5 on Bird Island.

We did ask for a quote to stay at the Banyan Tree, but I think it's just going to put it over our budget.

Christine has quoted us for 5 nights at Fishermans Cove, including wedding and 9 nights on Dennis at £7100, but we may have to come down to 12 nights for it to meet out budget of 6.5k.

Do you think this sounds reasonable?

Thanks again!!!

We flew to Mahe on the 4th of November and got married on the 11th. The weather was good, we had the occasional shower now and again, which was a welcome relief from the heat, but no prolonged rain, but I suppose you cant guarantee the weather in any country.

Sea conditions at the Plantation club were excellent because the waves broke out on the reef so the beach was very protected. I have heard reports that the sea at the Banyan Tree and Le meridien Barbarons can be very rough at times and dangerous for swimming.

I think Fishermans cove looks lovely and its on the beautiful Beau vallon beach, have you checked out the reviews on here for both the hotels you are thinking of? I think the northolme has been renovated hasnt it?

Denis island will be lovely to go to after being married on mahe (like a mini honeymoon!) as its luxury, its entirely up to you whether you want to go onto Bird Island,....it is a unique place. Do you think the Seychelles is somewhere you might venture back to again and again? If not then I would go the "whole hog" and do all 3 islands.

Try if you can to do a day trip to la digue (its beautiful), we went over by boat from mahe and then to la digue and praslin and flew back to mahe all in one day. (tiring but you will get some stunning photos).

As you are booking early (which is a really good thing as you can plan everything to perfection!) , I think you have plenty of time to shop around for prices to be honest....why dont you get quotes from several companies? And then you can compare whether your'e getting a good deal. Ive seen some people on here use specialist "seychelles agents" rather than your usual "high street travel agent", but we always use kuoni for our longhaul travel so thats why we went with them.

Hello

We are flying out to Praslin next Friday and getting married at the Indian Ocean Lodge on 7 february if all goes to plan.

I booked last June, as we just wanted a very simple ceremony just the 2 of us, we are fairly ancient!

The total cost of a 12 night stay on a half board basis and the wedding comes to approx £2,600. Not a fortune, although we are not going for the luxury hotels it hopefully will suit us.

I did do quite a lot of research amongst travel agents both on online and the High St and was amazed at the different prices quoted for the same package, the highest being 5K. I would advise trying a specialist travel agency as they were the cheapest.

Good luck with your search.
