Travelling to Masada and Jordan

We are travelling to Israel independently and are keen to visit some of the sites outside of Jerusalem. We can organise trips to Masada and Jericho from home but wonder whether it is better to do so when we arrive? Also, do we need to go to a Palestinian travel agent to arrange a group tour to Jericho?

It is always better to have these tours arranged in advance so you can plan your trip more efficiently. Israeli's are forbidden from entering Jericho, but you can use an Israeli tour operator to arrange such a tour. They use Palestinian guides for these tours. The same company that arranges the Masada tour can arrange the Jericho tour. Your title says Masada and Jordan, was this a typo?

Yes it was - I did mean Masada and Jericho - thanks for your advice. Is it safe to go to Jericho? I ask because I have not seen it discussed much on this site and a recent look at tours did not include it.

Lots of people go to Jericho -- it is stable and safe.

No problem with Jericho. It's just that Israelis are forbidden from entering that area. You may want to check on the West Bank forum for posts about this destination. Maybe there are more there.

Jericho isn't often offered as a tour on its own as there are not a lot of sites to see in the city itself. You will find day tours that include Bethlehem and Jericho together in one day much more frequently.

See here http://www.eggedtours.com/bethlehem1.aspx

For Jericho half day tours see here www.beinharimtours.com/Bethlehem-Jericho
