Best Beach in Sanur?

We are staying at Puri Santrian in August and were wondering what the best beaches in this area are? We have seen lots of photos where the beach looks like it has lots of debris on it? Are you able to wander along the beach path and use any of the beaches infront of any hotel?

Thanks

the stretch of beach in front of the tourist hotels is much the same except for the fact that the individual hotels maintain the area directly in front of their hotel. there for it will be kept raked, free of debris (as much as possible). each hotel places sun loungers on the sand for use by paying guests. if you want to use the beach facilities at another hotel then you need to ask and there is usually a charge to do so. there are also some stretches of beach frontage where there is no hotel and hence it looks to be un kept and has some rubbish, seaweed etc washed up on shore. the amount of debris varies. some days extremely clear and clean other days more. it depends on the winds and tide. the puri santrian occupies a large beach frontage and is well maintained. there are some very nice inexpensive restaurants close to here on the beach front. they often hire out sun loungers for the hour / day and will serve you drinks and food at prices much lower than the hotel prices.

yes you can wander along the paved walkway on the beach through the grounds of the hotels. it is a pleasant walk but can get a bit hot during the day. the good thing is you can stop for drinks and snacks along the way.

sanur is a lovely place to holiday.

It's in Kuta.

There's a brand new Golf course there. Google "New Kuta Golf", which is the name of the course.

It's not easily accessible. You have to walk down a rough short ravine.

Regarding Sanur, Snook is correct - some hotel beaches are better than others. There are also some cafes that rent beach chairs and do some maintenance on their beach. I think the Bali Hyatt has the best beach at Sanur, but its for private use of Bali Hyatt customers.

Dreamland is not anywhere near Kuta, although the developer has bizarrely named it "New Kuta Beach." Its located on Jl Uluwatu near the village of Pecatu on the way to the Uluwatu Temple. This was a famous and popular surf break, but has recently been developed as a luxury golf and beach resort - the Best Western hotel has recently been finished and there is a club under construction. Generally, there has been a lot of discomfort concerning Dreamland because it was a pet project of one of the Suharto's children during the worse period of his presidency and the land was allegedly seized from the local owners by force. Aside from the political issues, its a pretty decent beach, although a little rocky.

You should be satisfied at Sanur, but if you want to go beach hunting try the south side of Nusa Dua called Mengiat or Geger, Jimbaran (near the Intercontinental) or the long stretch of beach from (the real) Kuta to Seminyak.

Dreamland Beach is spectacular but miles away from anything else. In fact, its a surfer beach and not suitable for swimming.

Honeymooners... stay in and order room service at the Santrian Hotel. No need to get out and about.

If you do feel that you want something romantic, hop over to Kuta to watch a sunset or eat at the La Luciola on Seminyak Beach. Hard to beat.

Personally, I like the beach in front of the Bonsai Cafe, Batu Jimbar, quite close to you.

Beach near the Puri is very good, also a little further up to the north, near Warung Kami Sama, much quieter. Some sections have the rock groynes too close together for my liking. The Puri maintains their beach (and their sun lounges very well)

Go out of the Puri Santrian, turn right and head about 5 minutes along the path to Donalds on the beach. They have a group of singers who perform around the table on an evening. Arrive just before sunset and enjoy a cocktail sitting at your table right on the beach and watch the sun go down - you can look over towards Nusa Dua from here and the lights are quite lovely.

If you prefer to turn left, walk around 10 minutes to the north and stop for a woodfired pizza at Stiff Chilli, also right on the beach. You can walk for around 40 minutes to the north all the way to Sindhu beach markets, some nice restaurants here too, although a little too international for my particular Bali diet.

There is a very very nice restaurant almost at the entrance to the Puri Santrian (not their asian restaurant though) There are villas in this section near the Ralph Lauren POLO shop - the restaurant here is spectacularly good!

Enjoy!!!
