sanur and seminyak

For first time visitors to Bali, which area, Sanur or Seminyak, should we stay? We are looking for a place where we can get quite a few reasonable priced spa treatments, close to shops and restaurants and take some day trips around Bali. Great beach is not on the top of the list since we like to go to Carribean for that.

If there is any other area besides Sanur or Seminyak you would recommend, please let me know!

thanks

Christina

both places are good to base yourself. the main differences are

sanur is quieter more of a village atmosphere and the sun rises here. the beach is calm not big waves and best for swimming at high tide. sanur is a very pretty place. a good selection of restaurants and shops, not a lot of nightlife. yes there are spas here.

seminyak and legian (neighbours) have a larger selection of shops and restaurants. the sun sets on this side of the island and is a great place for drinks at sunset. the beach has surfing waves. unless you have a private hotel beach front there are more local hawkers here than most parts of the beach in sanur. there are lots of spas between seminyak and kuta. seminyak is home to some of the more expensive restaurants in bali.

sanur and seminyak are about a 20 - 30 minute drive from each other. look at legian for accommodation as well as seminyak as they are neighbours and both offer good accommodation. tuban (south kuta) has some nice hotels but there is construction work at the beach at the moment. not sure when it is finished but hotels like the santika are very nice and relaxing. i think either of the two places you mention would be good. if you are in bali for a while you could split your time between the two.
