Mrs. Greg would like to know if she can get an image or photo reproduced as an oil painting.
(in the Kuta region, not Ubud)
Not sure if it is exactly what you want but its a start.
I totally recommend Julio Artistic Touch (Dafi), Jl. Legian Kaja No. 466 KUTA. He has been there for a very long time and we have taken 6 photographs to be painted on canvas so far. I think his brother? has done a couple for us too (same place). The first one we had painted in 2011 was a portrait of my parents and brother, 60x80cm for 800,000 rupiah. The price for 40x50cm was 150,000 rupiah. I can't find my receipt for last years' but I'm sure the price didn't hardly budge. We've had scenery shots reproduced and a portrait of our dog, as well as a picture of hubby on his motorbike overlooking scenery - amazing! I will go back to them every time!
You cannot go past Syah for reproducing a photo/image onto a painting. They do not do oil painting but acrylic painting.
I have had a few paintings done from photos and was over the moon with the results.
I found it best to email a photo of what you want done and get a quote. They will not start work until they receive a deposit so make sure you have it all set up and arranged before you go to Bali. Day 1 in Bali go and pay your deposit so it will be ready by the time you leave. They are very popular and very busy so it is in your own best interests to set the wheels in motion before you leave Oz.
Thanks Bori, I might email them for more info. The wife wants some sort of girly floral thing done. She wasn't interested when I suggested maybe a portrait of me or me dog? (Probably need a real good artist to capture the true beauty)
Thanks Fame, any idea how long they need to do painting? (I know it will vary, but ball park?)
I though your Avatar was a paining of you?
If you're at their gallery on Sunset rd you might as well have some delicious and very good value sashimi at the Sakanaya restaurant next door.Edited: 4:38 am, January 03, 2013
Sorry JJJ I scrolled right past you, your fella sounds good also, and the prices seem good.
Bori, what is sashimi, raw fish? Do they do Veal Parma?
Ours were photos were of our 2 grand-daughters. I got the impression that each of the painters there specialised in a particular type of painting and depending on what you wanted painted was up to when that painter could do it. Took 2 weeks for ours to be ready. We emailed the photos first, got quotes, bargined, agreed on price and then told them what day we would be coming to pay the deposit. That way the painter was already lined up knowing what he had to paint. When we arrived at Syah, the photos had already been blown up and waiting to be painted.
It was all very professional.
I dare say that if your painting was not as complicated as faces from a photo, it could be done faster.
No worries, Greg :-) I do have contact phone/email for him if you want. I never booked ahead and each time paintings were ready within 5-6 days.
An email and phone# would be great JJJ, either post it or message me if you prefer.
