If you are travelling with two adult children I would stay in Seminyak, it is walkable to all the shopping and action, plenty of great restaurants and you wont have to get in a taxi everytime you want to go anywhere.

Jimbaran is lovely but very isolated.

Your whole family will love Seminyak as there is so much to do in regards to shopping, spas, and a great variety of restaurants and bars.

Enjoy.

Jimbaran has a nicer beach but is further out of the main action at Kuta and Legian. Seminyak's beaches are grey with storm water running onto beach that you have to jump to get across when walking along the beach.

Nusa Dua is like Jimbaran in white beach quality and is our personal favorite with nice family resorts on the beach you can walk past along the beach promenade. Only downside is its 20 minutes out of Kuta and traffic is getting really heavy when you drive in and out. Taxi is still cheap though - get the Bluebird metered taxis.

PS Exchange rates are best at the street side sellers that say "No commission".

Sofitel at Seminyak is lovely. Beautiful grounds and very good accommodation. Breakfast is great. It does depend on your budget though, as you can get some quite cheap places in Seminyak, and also some very expensive. Sofitel is middle of the range. We stayed in the Melia at Nusa Dua, which was really really nice, but there is nothing much around the resorts here and your adult kids will probably get bored easily if they are not into lying around a pool all day. The beaches are definately nicer on this side of the island though, but no surfing.
