We looked into this last time we were in Bali. You can either boat there and back or fly.

Neither is excellent....

Boat - difficult to find timetables and when we wanted to use it they had cancelled the fast ferry as it had sunk. Not sure if it's up and running now but I expect it is. It takes hours though. There's a fast ferry and a slow ferry. They both take a long time.

Flight - easy to book, cheap, just a bit scary because of their safety record. We flew Lion Air as we were told Merpati wouldn't accept our surf boards. I think we paid about £40 each and there was no charge for surfboards. It's a very short flight but a bit scary as it's a tiny plane. We booked via a travel agent in Kuta a few days before we were due to go and had no problems at all.

If you've not been before Lombok is beautiful. If you're looking for a good surf location check out Heaven on the Planet at Ekas Bay - you'll find it via Google.

Have fun!
