Thanks Hari Mangalji..unfortunately I read your post too late. I found a great bookshop in Hazratganj (Ram Advani Booksellers, Mayfair Bulding) and was able to pick up a good guide and also some books on the British history of Lucknow. This bookshop is a must visit!!
Nikhil Ji, I did my graduation from Lucknow university in 1984 and still have a fade memories of Hazratganj & Aminabad. I am using Tornos services for a long time, it is expensive but very reliable travel agency in Lucknow.
10 top reasons to repeat Lucknow-visit :
1.0> Succulent rolls of "Fillers" in Gomti Nagar
2.0> Ada Chikan Studio, Hazratganj
3.0> A leisurely stroll late evening at Hazratganj from one end (near the crossing) to another (as far as one can go)
4.0> Going through the books at Hazratganj bookshops and rummaging thru' the books laid down on footpath
5.0> Having a leisurely view of Hazratganj market from the 1st or 2nd floor of car parking and taking photos
6.0> A leisurely drive around Parivartan Chowraha past and around Bhatkhande Academy then onwards past Clarks Shiraz road which will give close glimpses of many old, beautiful buildings. Heaven for a photo opportunist.
7.0> Climbing atop the towering high Lucknavi rickshaw and taking a slow tour inside the crowded Nasirabad / Aminabad market. Getting down near Garbar Jhawala and getting immersed in the vibrant crowd and color all around.
8.0> Discovering the new mutton kebab and biriyani outlets (drifting away from overhyped brand-names), finding new small exciting outlets near the Press Club. Sample : Zeeshan Biriyani.
9.0> Driving down further ahead towards Bara Imambara just before the dusk sets in. Take nice photographs and appreciate the Imambara beauty and the beautiful Rumi Darwaza once the lights are lit on it.
10.0> A laid-back drive in cool late evening around Gomti Nagar.
Lucknow is a beautiful, interesting city. Wish the authorities could have completed the flyovers near Kanpur and Unnao. The journey to the city would have been a complete pleasure then.
