It’s the too hard to choose of them because all properties are good but Taj Hari Mahal is the best.
Taj Hari Mahal at Jodhpur is a very nice property. The pool facing rooms are an excellant choice. The restaurants are good. Ajit Bhawan is also fine but then it is a mix of heritage with some ultra-modern fixtures which are jarring to ones eyes. Bala Samand Palace lacks the throbbing vitality of the above properties.
We are jsut back from a trip to Jodhpur-Ranakpur-Jaisalmer
Stayed at Ratan Vilas during Dec 23-26 and at Taj Hari Palace from Dec 28-30
The second was due to some mixup in our bookings -- else we would have stayed at Ratan Vilas both times.
Did try Ajit Bhawan and Ranbanka for the second part. No room at that time. Ranbanka DOES have construction going on.
Ajit Bhawan is costlier (at least our quotes were) and Taj is slightly more than Ajit Bhawan.
Taj was very nice and so was Ratan Vilas (in different ways). Ratan Vilas folks are very hospitable and I very much like them particularly Mr. Brijraj Singh and his father and wife whom we met.
The people at the Taj are absolutely indicative of the usual Taj standards.
I hope this helps.
One more point:
Unless you stay at Bal samand Palace Hotel at least for a day you will not be allowed to see the lake -- this is what they told us when we tried.
Eating there will not allow you to see the lake!
I would put up with the mediocre management at Balsamand and stay there for the sheer beauty of the place - the lovely gardens, the lake and gem of a palace overlooking the lake. If you cant afford the suites, stay at the Garden wing. For good food, great service and nive atmosphere, my second choice would be Ajit Bhawan.
Taj HAri MAhal is excellent!!!!
