Camel festival is actually held in Bikaner. In Pushkar, the fair is known as Pushkar fair. It has both religious as well as commercial significance. The Pushkar lake here is considered extremely sacred and a dip in it is supposed to bring about salvation. Pushkar fair is also a traditional cattle fair. Cattle dealing including trading of camels take place during this festival. Also there are events that centre around camels like camel race.

The desert festival of Jaisalmer is organised to promote tourism in the area by the authorities. In this festival too, camels play a significant role. You can see camel dances, races, polos and tug of war.

The camel festival at Bikaner is also organised by the tourism department in the month of january. The festival is marked by colourful processions and other events associated with elephants that I mentioned earlier.

Desert Festival held in Jaisalmer every year in Feb . For three days Jaisalmer gets a chance to parade its charms to the world. Some chosen & cherished moments of its glorious past and rich culture are on display. The traditional dances accompanied by high-pitched music on instruments take the folk dancers one step back into time.

Pushkar Camel Fair held in Nov every year. Thousands of pilgrims come to bathe in the holy waters of the Pushkar Lake. Cultural programs, folk dances, folk music, camel races form a part of every day entertainment.

Seacrh for the hotel website and book directly to avoid any surprises .

What we call the camel fair in the Western world is in Pushkar. India has many fairs and festivals but none as famous abroad as the Pushkar fair.

It is held around the full moon of end of October/November. Different date every year.

The "camel part" is more at the beginning of the fair and the "religious part" is at its peak on the full moon day. It lasts more than 1 week.

Be carefull of the fake holy people who are after your money.
