rajasthan travel query

hi, later in the year my boyfriend and i are flying into delhi - we want to go to amritsar - udaipur - jodhpur - jaisalmer & bikaner before heading south - we would prefer overnight trains - less time spent on them as possible!

does anyone know the best way to do this?

thanks

New Delhi > Amritsar would be 6-8 hours

Amritsar is not very well connected with the other cities on your list. The only direct line is to Jaipur

Direct Routes:

------------------

Train No/ Name | depart | arrive | Hours | Distance | Days Departing

9772 ASR JAIPUR EXP 14:30 09:25 18 hrs, 55 min 872km --- --- Wed --- --- --- Sun

It's an over night train and an all day train rolled into one ;) Plus, the days available aren't so hot, just Wed & Sun.

Using all train connections for these cities will have you spending a lot of time in transit. It may be helpful to hire a car and driver for some of your trip.

I'd probably do something like the following:

New Delhi > Amritsar, 6-8 hour train.

Amritsar > Jaipur, 19 hour train. It is possible to do an 11hour train from Jalandhar, 79 km from Amritsar.

Jaipur > Bikaner, Overnight train

Bikaner > Jaisalmer, Hire a car and driver

Jaisalmer > Jodphur, 11:15pm arrive 5:20am train 4809

Jodhpur > Udaipur, Hire a car and driver

Udaipur > South India, All depends on where you want to go.

You can try different routes yourself at www.indiagroove.com distances and travel times are given.
