For your treks, would suggest dark clothing (preferably brown, khaki or dark green) - full sleeved cotton shirt, trekking pants with the ankle end tucked into leech socks which in turn goes into a good pair of trekking shoes. A cap and a few water bottles should complete your trek gear.

The locals (especially the guides) would suggest some Anti Leech lotion (essentially a mix of camphor, tobacco and gingely oil) which are quite effective, but are no match for a good pair of leech socks and treking shoes.

Hi We are due to stay in the Spice village 23rd Sept for 2 nights . We plan on visiting the wildlife sanctuary . Will we need trekking boots or would a decent pair of trainers be enough. Also will there be leeches at that time of year

jus returned from the trekking/rafting last week and would suggest the following:

1. full length clothing as you would be exposed to insects, specially leeches; Though I wore half-sleeves and did not suffer much. But full length pants is a must as the leeches mostly find their way up.

2. the forest department provides special knee-length socks to keep the leeches away which is quite effective;

3. a good pair of water-proof boots as the walk was quite muddy. guess coz it was raining then. Should expect little to no rains in oct though;

4. In case of leech on your skin, salt is very effective as the leeches fall off your skin immediately. something I learnt there.

5. May carry rain coats if you are expecting rains during your period of travel. check the weather forecast.

6. Your choice of food, as the food included in the package is really poor quality. you should get water bottle as part of your package.

hope this was helpful.
