Got back from kerala on 28th april and we spent £250 for 2 for 2 weeks, thats food and drink(we were on b & b)but most of the other guest had already been to goa(our first time in india) and they all said it was cheeper in goa(due to lack of tourism in kerala) so not sure as we can not compare.

I might add my hubby like a drink. Examples are kingfisher in hotel 100 rupees, beach resturant 70 rupees and at the liquer(that spelling does not look right but you know what i mean)store 40 rupees. Average meal was hotel(buffet)400, resturant on beach(1 curry,1rice,1potatoe dish and 2 nan breads)about 600 rupees. We tended to share as portions were quite large but im only a small eater but hubby big man!!!! Hope this helps.

Dont really know a lot of the peole who stayed at our hotel had been to goa and said it was dearer in kerala but we have not been to goa so could not compare. We were on sumardra beach which is very isolated(a couple of resturants next door)but lighthouse beach was a little cheeper but then you paid 200 rupees for tuk tuk so worked out the same. In general it seems because tourism has not taken off in a big way yet(no competition)then they charge more(rely more on tourists)also we went at the end of the season so don't know if that has any bearing on the price. A returant next door to our hotel was clossing for 4 months and those who worked there were going to find work elsewhere so maybe they were trying to get as many rupees as poss for the last few weeks!!!.
