If you are looking for houseboat day trip, you may come to Kumarakom or Allapuzha. Both these places are Approx 1 &1/2 Hrs from Cochin by a cab.

Speed boats are available at both these places. It cost approximately Rs.1500 Per Hour.

Yes. Day trip to Houseboat is possible if you can spend at least 7-8 hours in Cochin. Travel from Cochin to Alleppey by car is 1 hour 40 mins (approx 70 kms) and cruising in backwater approx 4 hours including Lunch and snacks, Back to Cochin can take 2 hours due to traffic near Vytila junction being peak time. You can book it directly at the counters at Boarding point or you may seek online travel companies to book the same.

Have a pleasant trip.

Speed boats on the backwaters Neenu! Is this a new thing?

I thought the whole point of "cruising" the backwaters was slowly, slowly!

The day cruises are lovely; a long day but well worth it.

A houseboat is like a hotel, it has a check in time, usually at noon.

Have a leisurely breakfast at your hotel, leave Cochin around 10:00 a.m. and drive to Alleppey. You can see rural areas as you pass by, it's an interesting drive once you get free of the urban areas. You can board the houseboat at 12 noon, cruise for about 4 hours or so. It tends to get monotonous after a while, at least that's what I think. Lunch is cooked and served on board, usually it is catch of the day and local Kerala cuisine. You can disembark around 4:30 or so and return to Cochin. Most will give you tea as well, before you disembark. A nice way to end the cruise.

The cruise is very relaxing, so you won't be tired.

Hi Judge-mental

Alappuzha is just 1 & half hours from Fort Cochin. Day cruise by houseboat is possible. They start at 11.00 AM and finish at 05.00 PM. They offer lunch (kerala style) with fish curry and fried fish and snack, tea, coffee at evenings. In these dates, it may costs roughly Rs 12500 including houseboat cruise having lunch on board and transfer by a bigger car.

Hi Igirl,

speed boats are not new at all!

i think it should be here for the past ( i mean last 10 years or so )

All the leading hotels have their own boats and also other private operators are also present here

yes! backwaters cruise could be done slowly! slowly!!

Hi Deepa, any recommendations for reputable companies (with good service, hygiene, etc.) for the 4 hour boat cruises you mentioned?
