Fist time Kerala advice

Hi all

First time to Kerala and will be there over new years eve, can I ask please:

1) Is it advisable to book accommodation ASAP as this is the busy season or are there still plenty of reasonable places to choose from when you get there - and the same for houseboats

2) Is it likely to be cheaper or more expensive to book this far in advance - and the same for houseboats

3) Any recommendations for places to stay over the New Year and houseboat companies for two people and what you should expect to pay for a houseboat

4) Do the houseboats run on new years day

Sure there will be lots of other questions but if you can help with any of these that would be great - thanks

Hi symbiosis001

It is good to book in advance to have the hotel of your tastes and interests.

The hotel price will not be cheaper, if you book in advance.

Form my experience, it seems that houseboat prices are less, if you book in advance. Depends....

I would say Rs 12000 to Rs 15000 for a resonably good houseboat, if you book now.

1) its highly advisable to book your trip ASAP as new years eve is peak season and when enquired with few hotels last time, it was already almost full..

2) booking in advance might not get you a cheaper rate in this case as its new year and providers normally would not give any discounts during December and January..

3 & 4) houseboats run during new-year. the rate would depend on what kind of stay you prefer. you get boats in different budgets but like said above a bot in price range of 12000-15000 will be a good boat.
