3 weeks in Kerala

This will be our first trip to Kerala and are thinking about taking our time to absorb the full beauty of this area.

At the moment we are thinking of spending 3 nights in Kochi, then 4 in Munnar, to do some gentle trekking, 3 in Thekkady, seeing the wildlife (if we are lucky), 4 in the Alleppey area for the backwaters, then 4 nights at the beach at Mariakula before spending our final night close to Cochin airport for our early departure flight home.

We will probably hire a car with a driver for getting between places.

Are we being too conservative about what we could do in this time as we have seen what seem to be very busy suggested itinaries for seeing the obvious attractions. Is there anything that we have overlooked?

hi,

all things is depends on the date of your arrival . if your are coming before Jan 15th its better to book all the things earlier cos its peak season time in Kerala

There so many spots and place in EVERY itinerary of Munnar and Thekkady its true there is lot to see but all things are in very small distance and on the travel ways.

if your are looking for Wilde life try Wayanadu also . the northern hill station of Kerala with Wilde life, vibrant culture and taste

for more kindly revert .

Hi Deadhead52

It seems to be a very relaxed itinerary. But, you are too young for this plan.

What are your tastes? In 3 weeks, you can think of more possibilities. Are you on a budget? What time of the year you are travelling?

I recommend

2 nights in Cochin

2 nights in Periyar

2 nights in Megamalai

2 nights in Madaurai

3 nights in Munnar

3 nights in Parambikulam Tiger reserve

2 nights in Valparai

3 nights in Thrissur

And 2 nights at the beach.

actually you are missing wayanad where you can see thick forest and stay in jungles also you have lot of time so you can visit varkala beach which is very good and Kappad /Kannur beach. You may get some info in my blog www.indus-explorer.blogspot.com

The original plan that you have shared will give you a chance to experience most with less traveling. In Munnar you can opt for a trekking to Meesapulimala and in Thekkady you can opt for a day tour of Gavi.

However you should probably think about revising the no of nights at Alleppey and marari . 4 nights at both these places are a little too much. Considering this is your first visit to Kerala , Would suggest opting for a Kerala Village tour in Kumbalangi or vaikom or may be include Varkala or Kovalamif you like beaches with different kind of moods

Hope this helps

To long in Alleppy. Maybe one night in hotel/guest house and one night on the houseboat. I'm also a big fan of Varkala for a laid back vibe and good food. more independant travellers there than at Kovalam which is more touristy and touty
