Mobile internet?

Hi, I need to stay connected via laptop while in India. The self-catering place I've found doesn't offer internet. Does anybody know, can you buy a mobile dongle and get a one month internet service? Any advice, ideas of costs? Thanks.

Hi Abi, Last year we bought a phone sim ( From Bruno's in Candolim) cost Rs600 with 500mb of data(2G) and Rs350 credit on phone. This worked well for Skype and browsing the web and lasted all our 3 weeks. Phone supported Wifi Tethering so we were able to use on the laptop too. 3G and dongles were also available. Coverage is just like at home better in Urban areas and poor many rural parts. Have a search for 'Mobile Internet ' near the top of this page and you will find more information.

3G is a bit hit and miss in Benaulim. Idea for example is good when down by the beach but not when inland in fact at the Idea shop near Maria Hall you can get a signal outside the building but not inside. The best bet is to check with the neighbours when you arrive to see what provider they use. Where we stay between Benaulim and Varca Idea is fine but no Airtel and you only seem to get Vodaphone if you are swinging from the light fitting
