Hi

Have been told this morning by some other Brits that sand bags are being dropped off by Calangute Steps and that the area is being blocked off.But did not see it personally.

Locals also say that in the press(non English Versions)that it has been anounced that as from the 15 Dec all large venues eg Titos and other clubs and discos are to be closed, also that the beach must shut down at 7pm.Will post more info as it becomes available and clearer.

Thanks for the info. I want to come over early in the New Yr but my girlfriend is very reluctant after recent events.

For what it's worth, my opinion is the heightened security is a good thing, at least it shows precautions are being taken. One thing that does put me off though, is if the party atmosphere is effected by the beach closures and the other measures being taken. Has anyone noticed the fun factor plumetting lately after whats happened?

I'm still committed to going and will be able to convince my other half as long as I reckon it's as safe as it was 2 weeks ago. Is that the case?

Hi

Did a walk this morning at approx mid day through Calangute down to the beach then along as far as the NV before returning home via the road by The Hungry Horse.

The approach to the beach by the statue is blocked to traffic. There are a pile of sandbags that are something like a half bunker at the top of the steps and that is it.No Police,no Guns no special forces and very few Domestic Tourists also.

Spoke to 4 shack owners that we know quite well and althought hey have heard about the shacks and beach having to close at nights no one they said has given them papers(made it official) to make them close so they arnt.

i will be in india from the 26th of dec to 14th of jan.... is Goa still going to be a hotspot for NYE?

I have never done NYE inGoa but heard its awesome. I'd appreciate some advice (i read some roads were blocked but will that SERIOUSLY damper the parties)???

People in goa seem so carefree i don't think it will affect them much.??

Hi

Today 1000 in Mapusa loads of cops around and at 1230 were told that armed Army guys were on the beach

and actually saw a few groups of them on the streets armed with more modern stuff than the old Lee Enfields(just),plus Ambulances with Blues and Twos going along with Police Escort heading towards Beach.May not be related incidents do not know at this time just all rumours.

There is definitely more of a police presence in the Calangute/Baga area.

I'm not sure what to believe, I've been told by a shack owner that the police believe that the 22nd Dec is a significant date, and that Titos,Margao and Panjim are chief targets. The shacks will be shutting from 22nd at 7pm.The beach sellers have been stopped because the large bags that they carry around could be receptacles for bombs.

I don't know.Apparently security has been stepped up,but I can't help but be cynical about Indian security and intelligence after the mess they made of the information they had of the Mumbai attacks.

Not sure about the festival, some people say it's on, some people not.

The most up to date information we have here,is that the beaches and shacks will be open. But all acess roads to the beaches in Goa will be closed to all traffic. The authorities will be running the Uk equivalent of a park and ride system, which should be interesting.
