Pre-trip vaccinations!

Hi

I haven't been to Goa before but I have heard that you need to have certain vaccinations before you go aswell as taking malaria tablets.

I've researched on the internet and found a very long list but my GP seems to think I only need Hep A and B.

Can anybody tell me which ones you definitly need?

Thanks

Jen

Your GP or the Practice Nurse should know. You are better off contacting your local health centre.

Hi Smiling...

Hep A is required - not normally Hep B.

You will need a tetanus if you haven't had one for over 10 years.

Best to check with your GP practice which ones you need.

(Hep B is only required if you think you may get "intimate" with the locals)

Sorry - was trying to be as delicate as possible - can't think why your GP suggested Hep B - hope it has given you a laugh anyway!

The Vaccinations you need for Goa are Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus and Polio. I have just checked both mine and my hubby's vaccination record cards (we go to different practices) and they both say the same.

Reckon that if your GP recommends A+B then thats what you should have.

No doubt you have travelled elsewhere in the world and are up to date with any thing else. Your GP will have a record of your Vac's that you have had. They normally look on their computers to see if you need anything else. If that is what they recommend then do it. That's what they are paid for. Might sound abrute but black is black etc.

GGH.

Hi, SmilingC has got it right. Just been for my typhoid booster and you also need tetanus and polio and one of the heps + malaria tabs paludrine and chloroquine which I cannot take as they make me ill. I take mefloquine. Have done on several occasions and it does not disagree with me and you only need to take one a week which is good. We go in three and a half weeks. Counting them off now.

Hope this helps.
