Best area for snorkeling

Hi

Just some advise please on which area is best for snorkeling and hotels with their own private beach. We usually go to Sharm every September but looks like thats off the cards, for the rest of this year anyway. Which hotels are bookable through Thomson?

Hurghada itself is not good for snorkelling off the beach. Nearby Sahl Hasheesh and Makadi Bay are far better. In the latter, the Sunrise Royal Makadi is very popular on this forum. Fort Arabesque next door, though not such a good hotel, is more convenient for the excellent reef.

Can't comment on the Sahl Hasheesh hotels, as I haven't been.

Hi,

You can also have a look at the Safaga area and Soma Bay.

The best snorkeling we did till now in Egypt was in Marsa Alam.

We found Gorgonia, Hilton Marsa Alam, Siva nice hotels with a beaurtiful house reef.

Also the house reef at Utopia Beach is very nice and its in a bay more change to snorkel when there is wind.

We have been to Soma Bay and Makadi Bay but the snorkelling is much better at Makadi Bay. Soma Bay had very little coral as we had been spoilt at Makadi Bay. You can snorkelling off a pier at Makadi Bay and following the shore line down (excellent). Also we have snorkelled next door at Fort Arabesque which has very shallow coral reefs. We have seen a variety of fish here and no where has come close to snorkelling :-)

Tropitel Sahl Haseesh Hotel is very nice. It is located on a sandy beach with a pier. You can swim and snorkel from the end of the this pier.
