Atlantic city to New York City

Is there a good way to get to New York from Atlantic City?

We will be in Atlantic City for a week and we thought a day trip would be fun.

I saw a rail line from Bay Head would that work?

you CAN take public trains from AC to NYC, BUT it requires taking NJ transit to Phila, SEPTA {south-eastern Pennsylvania transit authority] from Phila to Trenton & then NJ transit again from Trenton to NYC. You could also take AMTRAK directly from Philly to NYC, but is much costlier.

Here are websites for the public transits

nj transit

There appears to be a way to transfer from AC line to PATCO to RiverLine to Northeast Corridor LIne [all nj transit] and never have to leave NJ and probably less expensive, but have never tried it.

Anyway, the easiest suggestion is to take a bus from the bus station next to 'The Walk' outlet stores http://www.acoutlets.com/

You could check with the casinos. There are a lot of bus groups that go from NYC to AC so you could hop on one of those. Many even include $$$ for playing and a food voucher.

Be warned though, the drive itself takes about 3 hours one way.

Bay Head is about 1 1/2 hours north of AC, so the problem would be getting that halfway distance before hopping on the train from there.

Good luck and enjoy!

I go to NYC twice a week . Nearer to Christmas the travel is worse . Especially 62nd to 28th street .Park Ave to 9th Ave. Parking is expensive . From $10 per half hour to $20 a day ( but there are time restrictions for this . Best to check parking garage websites for exact pricing . There is a garage on 21st between Park and B'way , next to "TEN"S" club that is avg. in price and it takes reasonably good care of your car . I street park up in the 80's (Free but watch those signs ! The nearest one , even if it is 12 car lenths away, applies .And you need at least a car lenth from either side of a hydrant .) Watch at corners for "Don't Block The Box " signs (intersection) - Extra big fines for that ! You can also find free street parking in West Village . If you need street meter parking it is usually .25 per 15 minutes - 1 or 2 hour max. Some area have muni meter where you go to kiosk and get a ticket for your dashboard . Either way bring plenty of quarters . Avoid the tunnels at around noon and 4:30 -8pm . Best bet is to take the right lane of the left tube of the Holland tunnel . Take the second exit after you get out of the tunnel . Might the first right turn onto Hudson and travel about a mile to charles street . This general area should get you a parking spot . Then you can take public transportation .

Or maybe just take a bus from AC .

Very easy just hop a Greyhound from the AC Bus terminal on Atlantic Ave and take it to NYC Port Authority get off and your right in TheTimes Square area. About a 2 to 2 and a half hour trip depending on traffic. Round trip is around $35.00

Leave AC early in the morning, spend the day touring NYC than head back to AC later that evening, Just make sure you have your day planned in NYC to save alot of time figuring out where you want to go when you get there.

NJ Transit's Jersey Coast rail line is the one that stops at Bayhead.

You might want to take the train because almost every day between now and Christmas is tagged a "gridlock alert day". Getting through the tunnels alone can take 45 minutes so this will effect all the buses.

You can go to one of the casinos bus depot and buy a one way bus ticket back to NYC. Not exactly sure which casinos sell the tickets. I take Academy from AC back home to NYC once a month, I have no complaints. It takes about 2-2 1/2 hrs depending on the speed the driver is going and the traffic at the tunnel.

You can also go to the AC bus terminal and buy a ticket, but I've never done that....sorry, I have no info.
