Atlantic City in february

Hi there,

We´ll be in NYC in February, and were wondering if worth visiting the city. Our idea is to go early in the morning and come back in the afternoon. Anyway, I read in some pages that during winter the city is pretty "decadent", and many shops are closed, so, since our idea is to enjoy the boardwalk (and remember Nucky Thompson, hahaha) really don't know if february is the moment to go there.

Any advice will be welcome!

Thanks in advance!

February is not the best time to visit the Boardwalk, unless you enjoy solitude. The weather could be brutal, windy and cold...not comfortable for walking at all...but may be better near the end of the month.

AC is about 3 hours away from NYC, so you are talking about 6 hours travel for maybe a 2 hour visit? Not worth it, in my opinion.

We are heading down the end of January for the first time in the winter, however we are staying the weekend. Taking it more of a relaxing vacation, just gambling and relaxing around the room. Don't think I'd make a trip this time of year to walk the boardwalk on a day trip. I've never been on it this time of year, but I can only imagine it's not that much fun.

The Boardwalk in February kind of sucks. It's windy and cold. That being said, the casinos are nice and warm. You won't get the full Atlantic City experience but it can still be fun.

It really wouldn't be worth it IMHO. Especially since you make no mention of gambling.

Not really worth the time or travel from NYC.Much different response if it was Spring or Summer.

I have to add [& I'm mildly surprised no one typed it yet]. What if we get a storm in February? Rain or snow it'll make for an unpleasant trip. On the otherside of the coin. What if y'all get a sunny pleasant somewhat warm Winter day?

How do y'all plan to get to/from AC? Will y'it be a car? A bus?

And yes, now that some casinos have closed, the Boardwalk shops have cut back their Winter hours. = some don't open everyday any more

While I normally would be advocating for anyone and everyone to come visit AC, with your plans it's just not worth it. February weather is brutal! And the boardwalk will be desolate. It's just not worth the 3 hour drive each way. If you were coming down for a full day or two and staying over then yes, especially during the week since you'll get great room deals.

There are several “ifs” that you need to consider. If the weather is sunny but seasonal in temperature, if you are an early bird and can arrive in AC by 8:00 am, and if you do not mind a 4-6 hour round trip car ride, then, assuming this is your one chance to visit AC, maybe a February day trip to AC is not so terrible. The breakfast buffet at the Borgata is as good as any normal breakfast you can have in NYC, and is probably less expensive. After breakfast, you can tour the Borgata, maybe gamble a bit, and then move on to the boardwalk. I suggest that you park at either Caesars or Ballys. When paying as you leave the Borgata parking garage, ask the parking lot attendant for a receipt. The receipt will give you free parking at your next garage.

From Caesars or Ballys, I suggest that you walk north on the boardwalk to Resorts and Taj Mahal. In that direction, most of the boardwalk shops are located. At these shops, most low quality sweaters, shirts and other items can be purchased in February for $1 to $5. Despite the low February temperature, on a sunny day with little wind strolling the boardwalk is actually a nice walk. Certainly a better walk than the wind tunnels of NYC streets. And less expensive. If you get tired, hire a rolling chair. Since you are only in AC for the day, seeing the casino hotels is not really more than seeing a casino area. The exception is Tropicana, which has the Quarter. I suggest that you visit the Tropicana last, and have lunch or dinner at the Quarter before leaving to return to NYC. You can leave AC at 4 or 5 in the afternoon, and be back in NYC by 8 pm. It will be mission accomplished, and you will have experienced much of what AC is all about on a February day.

Really OK if you are taking a bus if the weather isn't too awful.
