At showboat right now. Interesting

We checked in yesterday around 5:30pm. Everything went smooth and even got the bourbon tower as requested. Now the big but, no one makes up our room all day.. Really?? And I go to front desk and there answer is " there are alot of rooms not made up and it could take a few hours to get someone up there". Ok so I ask for someone to bring us the "amenities" and towels and dump the trash. A guy comes about 15 min later and hands me two towels. Nothing else and I ask about the trash and he says call housekeeping. I call housekeeping and am put on hold for 10 minutes. And then I'm told they will send someone up when they can???? I am not too happy at this moment. The woman at front desk says that sometimes u have to ask to get ur room cleaned. I'm sorry but i never had to ask to have my room cleaned.

Nick d...I'm with you on this.

"Perhaps the hotel is at some fault here but sounds like some also is with a guest who needs housekeeping every 24 hours."

Dave,I respectfully disagree. Housekeeping is included in whatever room you stay in...YOur choice not to have it by leaving a do not disturb on. But when I am in a hotel I expect my bed to be made, the trash to be dumped and fresh towels, if needed.

I do it at home every day. When I am in a hotel, I expect it to be done for me.

OP, interesting you post this, I stayed at Showboat last night and when I arrived (around 6pm) I passed housekeeping in the hall on the way to my room (Orleans Tower) and thought it was odd they were still making up rooms that late in the day. I've only ever seen housekeeping out that late after a sold out weekend night, I doubt Wednesday night was so booked it took until 6pm (or, never, in your case) to make up all of the rooms.

Sorry Dave, I have to disagree. If I'm staying at a hotel comped or not, I can eat pizza and overload those tiny garbage cans if I want. I'm on vacation! I don't throw food on the floor or spill drinks everywhere (well, not on purpose lol) but I refuse to take out the trash while I'm on vacation.

As for throwing dirty towels on the floor, that is what they tell you to do. They used to have a little card that said "If you are reusing a towel hang it up. If towels are dirty put them on the floor." This way housekeeping only washes the dirty ones. Some towels are used to wrap up your hair etc and aren't "dirty".

Just my 2 cents :-)

Dave, for the record , and as stated , housekeeping would like all dirty towels to be piled on the floor. And if your reusing done towels they ask that u hang them on the hooks. We also after arriving gambled some there and then headed to resorts to see the how the construction was going and we decided to gamble a lil. We were planning on heading out to eat but then you know how time flies while your gambling and it was windy and rainy so we headed to taj's food court and only the pizza place was opened. We grabbed two slices and headed back to the room to eat and shower and and figure out the next course of action. I do enjoy to be a lil pampered while I'm away as does alot I'm sure but I ALWAYS clean up after ourselves. And yes we make the bed and straighten up before housekeeping even knocks to come in. I do understand its a personal opinion but I've seen and heard some major parties going on in those rooms and I'm sure the rooms were pretty trashy when it came time for housekeeping so a beer bottle or two and two take out containers for two slices of pizza are pretty much filing those small cans.

I can see your point. Maybe it is just me again but upon arrival the first thing do is make certain I have everything I need for my stay. Towels, shampoo etc.

Then I turn down the bed and check it over. I stayed at Showboat last year and checked in about 6 p.m. Got to the room and housekeeping was still there! Seems there was a big concert the night before.

I have seen the condition of rooms walking down the hallway with housekeeping going about their business. Some people are just slobs. Housekeeping isn't exactly a high paid job. And they have to clean up some nasty stuff. People lose money in the casino and take it out on somebody making what $10 per hour?

If they make even that... They do depend on there tips. At least I did when I worked down there. I'm more saying that being lied to by guest services is uncalled for. Never of all the years that I've gone away that I was told if you want housekeeping you need to request it. And I have to say that in showboat and Ballys and Cesar's the last times we were there the length of time that the room service trays sit in the hallway is crazy. On week we were there for 4 days and a tray across the hall sat there on the floor from the morning after we checked in and it was there when we left.

My understanding is that "Housekeeper" (Maid) is for the most part a union job.

They start at minimum + tips.

In NJ minimum is currently $7.25/hr.

"Gov. Chris Christie vetoed legislation last month that would have increased the wage by $1.25, to $8.50 per hour, and provided for automatic yearly increases."

Regardless of what they make the room should be cleaned, the bed made, garbage taken out, and fresh towels supplied, every day unless otherwise specified. Min. Wage while crappy does not absolve you from doing your job. That being said this clearly seems to be the hotels fault for not suplying enough staff to get the job done.

Showboat stinks in terms of customer service. I had so many hassles there I refuse to stay there when I can go next door and get comped rooms without any hassles.

I had nothing but grief from long check-in lines (they must be retarded if they can't up their desk staff on high check-in periods) making people wait HOURS to check in. I had hassles with check-out due to desk clerks not understanding points usage policy. I had snarky parking attendants.

I won't spend a dime there anymore. No need for it. I got adamant with a desk clerk about my offer for breakfast and told him to use my TR point balance for something and he refused. He told me to walk down the LOOOONG lobby to go to the TR desk and have them call him. No -- I'm the guest and you guys are the same property -- how about YOU call them and then tell ME what you are going to do the right way for your guest!!! It's always a circus over there with these types of issues coming up. Not to mention the ghetto peeps who have the whole floor up at all hours in the middle of the night with their drama and over-occupancy parties (snicker).
