Revel's Pro Pickem Football Contest problem

I've read numerous posts regarding the various computer screw ups at Revel in all areas of operations.

Here"s another one.

I have two week 7 pro picked sheets from Revel. One is

mine and the other belongs to my wife.

Since she knows nothing about football, her picks were identical to mine, including the tie breaker score.

Yesterday, she received an email announcing she was a winner and money had been credited to her player card account as a prize.

I am holding a ticket with the exact same picks yet I have received no notification of a winning entry.

(yes, they have my email. I have won in previous weeks and received email notification)

It looks like all winning tickets are not paid or there is another computer foul up.

I plan to be at Revel tomorrow and will check with the Revel card center for an explanation. Unfortunately, past experience at the card center has shown that the reps are not particularly knowledgable regarding Revel promotions.

why do you believe it's a computer screw up?

most people probably think that in a "pick 'em" contest, that ALL prizes are awarded based on their own individual picks. it's only natural to assume that. but that's usually not what the rules say.

usually, only the TOP prizes are awarded based on the most correct picks. in this contest, in addition to the top weekly prize of 5K, the revel is awarding weekly cash prizes of $500 to 20 people and 1400 prizes of $25 in slot play. (i'm assuming your wife won $25 in slot play since you said it would be credited to her account.)

if you look at the rules of the promo, it states that each week they will award "$5,000 to player with the most correct picks," and also that there will be "20 winners of $500 in cash" and "1,400 winners of $25 in free slot play." it does NOT say that those lesser prizes will be awarded based on picks.

nor would you probably want them to be... with 20 and 1400 winners, there would be so many ties that they couldn't realistically use that data for anything but a random pick of the winners... which is how i suspect your wife was chosen... RANDOMLY... and why it is quite possible for you and your wife to have identical picks but only one winning ticket. i haven't participated in this promo and i haven't had the rules scrutinized by a lawyer, but based on my experience with other similar promos, and a quick glance at the short version of the rules available on the website, i think this is the only rational explanation. there likely was:

• no computer screw up

• no botched promo

• no customer service snafu

• no failure to pay out on winning tickets

it seems to me more like a simple misunderstanding of the rules, but please do let us know what the revel reps say.

There are NO rules on the ticket itself.

There is nothing that I recall seeing on the machine that it was a random drawing with the exception of the $5000 winner.

They should rename the promo Revel Pro Pickem Drawing instead of Pro Pickem Contest.

well, you should probably tell the borgata to rename their promo, too. they have similar rules and also pick slot play winners randomly. and i think that caesars entertainment does the same thing in the football themed promos at all their casinos across the country that hold them. same thing for sugarhouse in philly. in most of these promos, by the way, the word "pick" is prominently featured, just as it is at the borgata.

incidentally, there are no rules on the tickets issued at other casinos, either, nor are there usually any signs saying that some prizes are determined by random drawing... you'd have to look at the official rules of the promo at each of these casinos to learn that. i strongly encourage players to ALWAYS examine the rules of any promo to see if you can somehow gain an advantage or at least in an attempt to try to better understand what the expected return of the promotion might be. you'll usually discover that most casino promos have very little value, very little expected return.

hey, look, i'm among the first to call out the revel when they screw up. there are major customer service snafus occurring over there at the revel on a regular basis. this wasn't one of them. in my opinion, this "ready, fire, aim" strategy of accusing the revel of malfeasance every time they do exactly what every other casino does is terribly misguided.

Just quoting from Revels website

"Think you know football? Put your skills to the test by picking the winner of each Sunday and Monday NFL game at Revel.

Weekly and season prizes are up for grabs. Open to all Revel Card members."

i quoted from the revel website, too, in post #1.

and in the rules, it says nothing about the lesser prizes being awarded based on picks. it only says the weekly 5K and 1 million dollar prizes will be awarded based on picks. again, every contest of this type that i have ever seen has been set up in a similar fashion. when you stop at the revel player's club desk, perhaps you should ask to see the rules.

here's a quote from joe lupo, borgata’s senior vice president of operations, speaking last week to a reporter from the press of atlantic city: "it’s a free promotion, with a chance to win based on picking the most winners or a random drawing."

…pressofatlanticcity.com/mobile/article_67be…

i understand your disappointment, but are you really suggesting that the revel is somehow running a misleading or fraudulent promo? i think you should focus instead on your great good fortune... both you and your wife have each been extraordinarily lucky and been chosen to win a prize in random drawings of 1400 names. it sounds like you have even won more than once!

congratulations!

Its true that you will be notified of winning the football picks by email, both me and my wife got selected for $25.00 slot reward.

At the Borgata you must be present to be a winner, we pick there but are never present for the drawings so of course we cant win.

Now if Revel starts comping rooms to the people who play like Borgata does that would be great.

You don't have to be present at the Borgata if you are a winner.. I won 40.00 slot play twice, my husband once and we weren't present. All winners at Borgata can be easily accessed on their web site by Wed morning. Had no trouble using our slot play .

i know many of these promotions, where there could be thousands of correct answers/picks, they draw a certain number of "winnners" from the correct answer pile. not saying right or wrong but pretty standard practice. should they disclose this? yes. do they? not always...
